Ok, so I have done this upgrade and when I turn on the air it wont come through the dash vents. I read that I can turn the temp all the way down and then all the way back up and they will work, this works. But, now the window defrost wont work unless I do the same thing again. So, I have to turn the temp all the way down to change from dash vents to defrost and visa versa. Is there any way to fix this? Would it be something to do with the ATC setting? If I said forget the ATC, would the vents work again?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Spoke with Brian,
Change HVAC config back to Single Zone MTC and let us know what it does.

Edit: works correctly with Single Zone MTC selected .... Likely an AlfaOBD programming step issue... See BOTTOM OF POST 3 in the ATC thread.

Anyone else run into this issue when enabling Single Zone ATC?

**********

Include your

- Year/model/trim of truck/original fan speed

- Original radio/new radio model (& new pn)

- 8.4 HVAC module PN (bought new or used?)

- Fan resistor you used (New OEM, Used OEM, or Clone?)

- Conversion Harness: ie 4 or 7 speed w/Sgl Zone ATC support

- Cabin Temp Sensor and/or humidity sensor (New or Used or Clone?)

- what you used to program: AlfaOBD PC or Android/OBDLink MX BT & steps you did (battery vs radio fuse pull between steps?)

--> & what SW version of AlfaOBD you used!?

(The last AlfaOBD update had been from Sept 2020 v. Around the time a few did their install & before noticing these issues. ** There's is now a newer Nov 29, 2020 update to v2.1.9.5)

12/6/20 EDIT: TRY the latest version v2.1.9.5
.. or an earlier version of AlfaOBD before the last Sept 2020 update ... ie Maybe October 2019 version 2.1.7.6 ...

See this link from the AlfaOBD thread OP for earlier versions & contact Alexey for an activation code to try it.
Earlier AlfaOBD versions.

AlfaOBD Programming from Post 3
NOTE : Battery disconnect or pulling the 20A inline radio fuse near the brake booster for 1-2 mins (Pass Side firewall on Dual Batt. Trucks) ... between these changes can speed up the radio/BCM reset for changes, especially with a UAQ/UAS radio (think 15-30mins or more).

* Radio is not reset until SXM button displays again and/or Backup Cam works if installed)

* your original config would be "Single Zone MTC"

------ (ONLY AS NEEDED TO START OVER) ---------
TO RESET YOUR HVAC Configuration Back to Original

With key in 'RUN' (engine off)
....Connect to BCM -> go to "raised hood" icon -> Car Configuration Change )

Vehicle Configuration 3 ->> HVAC Configuration:
Select:
Single Zone MTC

Then disconnect AlfaOBD, Shudown the truck, let it go to sleep… and pull the 20A inline Radio fuse near the brake booster at the firewall (2 minutes) to force a radio reset.

Next… Get back in and switch the truck to “run” without starting. Wait for RADIO to reset… it’s done when the SXM button appears and the Backup Camera works again.

Check the HVAC on screen menu… it should show the old Single Zone temp slider without the temp readout . (now your back to original config).

------------------------------------------------------------

To Begin/Program for Single Zone ATC...

With key in 'RUN' (engine off)
....Connect to BCM -> go to "raised hood" icon -> Car Configuration Change )

Vehicle Configuration 3 ->> HVAC Configuration:
Select:
Dual Zone ATC

Disconnect AlfaOBD app & shut off the truck for a few minutes and pull the 20A inline Radio fuse for 1-2 mins to force radio reset. You must wait for the Dual Temp sliders to display on the 8.4 radio before proceeding with single zone ATC change. (wait for SXM Button/BuCam to show up again)

....Connect to BCM -> go to "raised hood" icon -> Car Configuration Change )

Vehicle Configuration 3 ->> HVAC Configuration:
Select:
Single Zone ATC

Disconnect AlfaOBD app & shut off the truck for a few minutes and pull the 20A inline Radio fuse for 1-2 mins to force radio reset. You must wait for the Single Temp slider with Temp Setting to display on the 8.4 radio before proceeding any other changes. (wait for SXM Button/BuCam to show up again)

DONE

-2015 Tradesman 3500, 4 speed fan
-Original 5.0 replaced by 2015 RA3
-HVAC module as recommended in original thread purchased from Benny
-Fan resistor as recommended in original thread purchased from Benny
-7 speed conversion harness from M2Mods, with cabin temp sensor extension
-Cabin temp sensor purchased from Benny. No humidity sensor
-Used AlfaOBD PC originally but have since used Android both with the same MX dongle. Never pulled any fuses or disconnected batteries.
-Currently set up for single zone ATC. Voice commands work to change temperature. Modes change without much delay when in manual mode but it delays switching auto to manual mode changes. Leaving in auto works fine.

When I had a UAQ installed:
- 2017 Ram 2500 Tradesman with 4 speed fan
- Original 5” RA2 radio to a UAQ out of a 2020 Jeep Gladiator (68417861AK)
- HVAC part 68366553AA
- Denso 499300-2121 blower motor resistor
- conversion harness for 4spd to 7spd fan with ATC cabin temp sensor and atc sun sensor (68230114AB). Humidity sensor not necessary for my HD truck
- Used AlfaOBD Android app with OBDLink MX to set dual zone atc first. Waited about an hour after a drive cycle for the dual zone controls to show up on the screen. Set to single zone atc, and waited for screen to switch to single zone atc controls. Behavior was very erratic at first. Pulled radio fuse in engine bay for ~15 minutes. Several drive cycles and HVAC started functioning normally. Always kept temp set to 70F. A/C *usually* came out of dash vents, but sometimes out of defrost/floor vents. Same with heat. As far as I could remember, it functioned exactly like a factory equipped ATC truck does.

Original 5" Ra3 to a UAQ out of a 2018 Ram
New blower resistor
New harness and temp control mod with cabin sensor.
Used alpha obd on windows with OBDlink mx+.
changed from Single MTC to Dual AtC and then removed radio fuse.
Then from Dual atc to single atc and removed the fuse while allowing SXM symbol to reappear each time before next step.

It is now glitchy. Cant change units from US to metric.
When adjusting temp it jumps from 74 F to Hi heat.

I am not sure what to do now.

Can you editt your post to include your radio and hvac module part numbers

I believe you indicated you had a Canadian UCQ 68340153AH (I was expecting it to be 68331632Ax) and you had a new 68366553AA Module.

I did this upgrade a while back and just noticing now that when set to a higher temperature requiring the heat to come on, no air comes out of the main vents (blow on your face) but with the cool air on lower temperatures it does. Is this normal? I can manually change it to blow heat but then defeats the purpose of ATC.

Yes this is normal operation that even trucks from the factory do. The system will even direct airflow up the defrost vents if needed which is determined in part by the windshield humidity sensor.

@Mpgrimm2

i do not get defrost with atc and when i put it on defrost manually it blows out the dash only
Please see post 882 above and update your post.

Downgrade AlfaOBD to Oct 2019 version (or update to latest v2.1.9.5) and go through the HVAC MTC Reset and Single Zone ATC programming steps from the bottom of post 3 and report back.

** I'm really starting to think this is an AlfaOBD issue, especially when things work correctly in Single zone MTC.

(I've got a harness setup need out to @DeereGuy to see if he can replicate the issue in his 4th gen 16 ram 2500 and waiting to hear back from @RamCummins on some things that were sent his way and for him to downgrade AlfaOBD & try it again.)

My install went flawless when enabling Single Zone ATC and my steps below per M2mods:

**********

Include your

- Year/model/trim of truck/original fan speed>> 2014 1500 CC 5.7 with factory 8 spd

- Original radio/new radio model (& new pn) RA3 with dealer activated NAV. /// upgraded to RA4NA and 7" cluster

- 8.4 HVAC module PN (bought new or used?) factory module.

- Fan resistor you used (New OEM, Used OEM, or Clone?) N/A

- Conversion Harness: ie 4 or 7 speed w/Sgl Zone ATC support N/A

- Cabin Temp Sensor and/or humidity sensor (New or Used or Clone?) harness, sensors provided my M2Mods

- what you used to program: AlfaOBD PC or Android/OBDLink MX BT & steps you did (battery vs radio fuse pull between steps?) AlfaOBD Android with newest update

--> & what SW version of AlfaOBD you used!? newest v2.1.9.5

- Anything else that may be relevant >>>>

* I pulled BATTERY HOT cable before connecting harnesses and sensors
* Reconnected battery and verified HVAC , SirusXM and backup cam were GTG
* Did 1st AlfaOBD change to DUAL Zone.
* shut key off, pulled Afa from port and disconnected battery again
* waited just over an HOUR
* Connected battery and verified HVAC was now DUAL ATC when Sirus and cam looked good. all HVAC settings worked
* Did 2nd Alfa change to Single Zone. repeated, shut off, pulled alfa and disconnected battery for an hour
* reconnected battery, checked HVAC and all was GOOD. Manual / AUTO worked perfectly.
-- several drive cycles now and all is great. One of the BEST mods yet..

PFI! Will someone please tell me the part number for the SINGLE zone ATC HVAC controls? My current setup is in the attached picture. My truck had the factory 8.4 but I installed @Mpgrimm2 single zone ATC harness & temp sensor as it did not have ATC from the factory. I would like to make it complete and look correct with the auto button. Thank you in advance. I have also attached a picture of the controls I'm looking for. 186778e17957784413675ca19e8a39a2.jpg

Pictures didn't show up. (For me either posted from Tapatalk !?!

Note sure if this is what you are talking about, but there isn't a pn for a Single Zone ATC bezel. I custom make each one using parts from both OEM bezels and a modified control board. See this post.

That's odd, I'm sorry about the pictures! Yes sir that's exactly what I'm looking for. Do you have any that I'm able to purchase that you have already converted/built? I'm trying to avoid having to run without the controls. Also what would you price be on that? I thought there were trucks that came factory with single zone automatic climate control? [emoji44]
