For a new 2020 Ram I was offered 10 years/100k or 10 years/115k at $2600/$2900, option to remove within 90 days for full credit and this is supposed to be the military/first responders price. Third party provider, I'd rather it were a factory program although from what I'm reading here those are gone.

Still have Maxcare, but the lifetime plan has been discontinued since 2018.

Extended warranty victims, I mean buyers, often proudly proclaim they are going to keep their truck for a long time, thus justifying the money spent. But if you start looking at the Ram years of EW buyers, you'll see that's simply not the case.

Almost all EW proponents have trucks that are 5 or less years old. But the vast majority of EW owners have trucks that are 3 or less years old.
What are you basing this on? The trucks folks have that are responding to this thread? If so, your argument is not a good one. Folks with older trucks probably don't come here much, and if they buy them older, they are not EW eligible.

I kept my last new truck 17 years. Just because I have an 18 now does not mean I won't keep at least as long as my last truck.

I had EW on two of my vehicles in the past. Didn't think they were worth it. However, there are a few local dealerships that offer lifetime warranties if you purchase a new vehicle through them. A repair would have to be done at their facility though. To me that would be a good incentive.
You need to read the details on those "dealer warranties" pretty closely. We bought a new vehicle from a place like that. But we had to take it to the dealer for regular maintenance. I asked what an oil change cost and it was like $150-200. Plus there was a pretty decent deductible, and the coverage was not that extensive. We passed on it by me doing my own oil changes and other maintenance. When I did the math, I'd have been better off buying a factory EW.

There's usually a lot of fine print on those and coverage is minimal. Something like "internal lubricated parts of the drivetrain" and nothing else. You may (or may not) need to allow them to service it to keep coverage.

Jeb,there are exceptions to everything. That's why I choose my words carefully, and use words like "almost, and vast majority".

It's interesting that you owning a 3 year old truck, prove my point, yet argue against it.

The average new vehicle buyer keeps their new vehicle less than 6 years. Please note the word average. Thank you.

Well heck I guess I'm not average.
When I bought my 2015 Eco Diesel the best warranty that they were selling at that time was a 5 year/ 100,000 mile plan.
I did purchase it and used it a few times on mostly minor issues. Of course now I'm past the 5 year and almost to the 100,000 mile mark
So yes I did pay more for the warranty then the repairs would have cost,
I'm still glad that I purchased the warranty and wish that I could have gotten a lifetime one at that time.
At the cost of repairs today if you don't do it yourself it would be very easy for a repair to be over what the warranty cost.

Almost forgot what would have been an expensive repair that the warranty covered was the tone ring replacement before the recall

I don't think your "point" has any merit in this discussion. It is, at best, extremely anecdotal.

My F in L was a high level MoPar exc. and gear head. He never believed in extended warranties/service agreements until all of the electronics came about. He then said the manufactures extended service agreement is the only way to go IF you plan to keep the vehicle longer than the basic factory warranty.

I have the Max Care B to B $100 ded on all three of my MoPars. The van is 12 years old with 205,000 miles on it. Best dollars spent.

FCA offers a MOPAR warranty 2 years interest free and, in Feb of 2019 I bought the unlimited mileage MAX Care package which is 84 months long from the date you buy your new vehicle. I payed $3760. The payments were $147.50 a month. Feb. of 2021 is my final payment I have 78,400 on my RAM now and I have had to use the warranty. I was over filling my gas tank and I was unaware that this can cause sever damage to the tank. I paid $100, Deductible. The started went out and I paid the $100. As many miles as we drive I expect when 84 months come along we will have perhaps 190,000 miles and I expect there will be some kind of major work needed by then.

There are cheaper MOPAR warranties but I went with the MAX Care. Extended warranties are a gamble, and the peace of mind for me is well worth it.

I would say if you are buying the extended warranty, wait until near end if your factory warranty. Of course buying, say, a 7 year warranty is cheaper at beginning, but that is because factory warranty covers almost everything. So the 7 years is really just 4 years post FW. If you wait and buy at end of FW period, your 7 year EW will go to year 10 of the truck. More expensive? Probably, but if you anticipate using the EW you will get more value later in a truck's life, it would seem.
The FCA MAX Care still starts the day you buy the RAM, buying it early save some money. When the 36, 36,000 goes off the pirce goes up.

It would be interesting to know why/if the FCA maximum care warranty is more expensive buying after factory bumper to bumper and then power train warranties expire. Many car insurance, AAA, etc. cover the FCAMC extras (like rental) already so one may be paying extra for double coverage. There are no MC-covered repair payments in 1st three years (36k miles) that I am aware of from MC warranty, so only payments are the extras. So technically, FCA has potentially less payout expense writing remainder of 7 or 8 years in a MC extended warranty if written at end of 3/36. I would imagine that one can negotiate a better price at end of warranty period, definitely less possible payout for FCA at that time. I still maintain that shopping aftermarket EWs could give a better deal as actuarial activity is spread across many more vehicles and coverage can be as good, if not better. Buying FCA locks you into FCA dealers only and you are not guaranteed new OEM parts. If you want repairs done at FCA dealer, aftermarket EW let's you go there and you could end up with same repair parts anyway.

Do yourself s favor, next time you buy an FCA warranty don't go to your local dealer, buy it from Ziegler. That's a dealer I think in Texas. They sell the same exact FCA warranties at big discounts. Honored at any FCA dealer in the US.

Saw a guy at a Mopar meet he had a 74 Duster with a new 6.4L Hemi and 8spd. Was asking him how much it all cost and he said $200. Supposedly he bought a bad motor and trans for scrap prices swapped them in his 2500 and had the extended warranty replace them and took the original drivetrain and swapped it in the Duster. Can you believe him, idk I kind of do.

That's always an option guys :D

Their is a lot of good useful information Everyone is putting out on this tread. I have purchased 4 MOPAR extended warranties over the past 10 years.

FACT. The warranty clock starts to tick when the original owner purchased the car and placed into service, meaning once the vehicle is now being used and mileage is accumulating then that mileage counts towards to extended warranty.

Example You purchase a 1 year old vehicle with 15000 miles then the extended warranty loses 15000 miles and the one year. 100.000 mile warranty and 7 years is actually 6 years and 85000 mile warranty.

Also if you sell the vehicle while under the extended warranty you will get a refund that is prorated upon transfer of vehicle sale. Every vehicle I traded in I at least got a refund between 500 to 1000 dollars. Based on years used and mileage. Hope this helps out .

You must understand that the avg repair cost per hour is now over 110 dollars, plus parts. So a major repair for example of 7 hours to complete will cost you over 770 dollars plus tax, just for the labor. For one repair. I think they are worth it if you drive a lot of miles or keep the car a long time. If not trade them in and get a refund for the amount of warranty you did not use

Thanks to all, I do not find any warranties going the full 10 years but certainly some going shorter with lower cost and lower deductibles. Plus the crap shoot of how one is treated when the time comes to make a claim, here and throughout the forum.

Whatever you do, do Not purchase a Warranty that does not read that it is the Official Mopar warranty.

Most dealers will try to sell you one of 2 warranties,
1) Mopar Warranty, it is good in the USA, Canada & Mexico

2) local dealerships warranty, the problem with these is that sometimes it will be good for just your State, some of them may cover 3 or 4 States & that's all.
....

Warranties Direct i believe is a Official Vendor on this forum,
The other honest company is Ziegler. i believe that there is one other company, although i don't recall the name.
All 3 sell the Official Mopar Warranty, cheaper than what the dealership can.

Our dealership offers only one warranty, they call it a service contract rather than warranty and it's sourced from Assurant.

Service contract, extended warranty, it's all the same thing. You're buying insurance basically. Odd a Mopar dealer would not offer the official Mopar product, though. They must make more money selling the Assurant product.
