I have a 2005 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. I want to keep the original block and have it stroked out to somewhere between 400 and 403.
I would prefer to find a mechanic local to Fort Worth to talk with, and possibly pay for some work.
Questions:
-I found a 400 stroker kit, can 403 ci also be achieved on the Hemis?
-Can a stage 4 545rfe be used in this situation?
-How much nitrous can be used with this setup?
-What gear ratio do I need for the rear end? I currently have the 3.92 and plan to keep the stock original 20” wheels.
-Which dampener do I need? Under or overdrive?
-Which mechanics are trusted and near west Fort Worth/Azle?

I used to be on this forum many years ago…glad to be back.

Funny, but ended up on the wrong post lol. I'll leave it anyway.

- 410 is the largest displacement I've seen with a 5.7 stroker without taking the bores dangerously out way too far. 403 is oddly specific (closet Olds fan?). Install the stroker kit, save as much bore as you can; the more metal you take out the less stiff the block is. Those precious few cubic inches (or fractions of a liter) aren't going to make a measurable difference anywhere but in your own mind.
- I would not use ANY RFE in this situation. It's gonna die.
- Talk to your tuner, depends on a few factors like cam, plug heat range, compression ratio, fuel you're using, etc. Can't get on a forum and ask that general a question and expect accurate answers.
- Gear ratio is a function of purpose; are you looking for a certain trap speed, towing ability, to compliment the cam choice, etc?
- A good one. Are you trying to slow your accessories down, thereby lessening drag or you trying to speed them up?
- Hopefully someone from the area will answer your last one.

Thanks for the help guys. I want to go 403 ci so that it’s a true 6.6 liter, but as you said Hemilonestar, it’s just a small preference.
So, nag1 tranny for this setup?
I will not be towing, and want gears that will go with the cam I get installed.
Still confused about the over and under drive options…

Hey Hemi817MM check out City Motor Supply off Harry Hines in Dallas. They're great engine builders and have been in business for like 50 years. They do all machine work in house. They will build your long block if you tell them what your wanting.
