I recently got a window busted in my ram. All the glass was on the outside of the truck when I found it. Doors were still locked. Nothing was taken. My boss at work told me heat probably caused it to bust. He might be right because it's been hot as hell recently!

Anyway. The alarm never went off. The alarm light wasn't flashing in the dash. And it occured to me. I've not seen the red light in the dash after locking the doors in a very long time. I'm wondering, did I ever see it? Or am I remembering my 2001 Chryslers dash and it's the Mandela effect. How do I figure out if I ever had one? How do I reset it and make it work if I do have one?

I've opened the door with the window down after locking it, from the inside and outside. With the key, and pulling up the lock. I can't seem to figure it out!! Any help would be appreciated!

It's a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT 8ft bed, crew cab.

Not likely it has one. Run your VIN and see if one was factory installed: Equipment Listing
If not, then if one wasn't added later on it doesn't have one, just the panic button.

Omg. It's not listed! I swear I remember it having one though! My grandpa specifically asked that it have one when he bought it 16 years ago! His 96 had a viper alarm in it, and he wanted a factory alarm. I think we have spent this whole time thinking it had one!!

Do you think that happened?
Don't know for sure, but I don't think you can hit a window from the outside and have all the glass wind up outside on the ground. Some of it would land on the seat being that the force came from outside in. Stranger things have happened.

Exactly. I swear I have set that alarm off in truck stop parking lots before though. I am pretty sure I remember it going off when a kid left a dent in the side of the truck with his head when he wrecked his bike into it. Hmmm. Why do I have such a vivid memory of this truck having an alarm though? Can it be turned on with alfaobd I wonder?

Not sure, but do a search (top right corner near the notification icon) for AlphaOBD, there's a ton of good info here.

Don't bother, AlfaOBD is for CAN bus vehicles only. Your 2005 is not.
Then is there any way to turn on the factory alarm? I am still racking my brain. I'm almost positive it used to flash in the dash. And that the alarm worked. Is it possible that the factory had turned it on when it was bought? My grandpa asked and paid more specifically so he would have a factory alarm.

Examine your fuse box looking for any wires that stand out ,you may find a power wire jumped from it , possibly to a little black box dangling or zip tied under the dash drivers side. My 2004 had an aftermarket Alarm that was like this. Also found a wire hooked to an ignition wire up there, give it a good look you may find something obvious.

There is no turning things on or off in a PCI bus vehicle like you can with CAN vehicles. Wiring and modules have to be INSTALLED.

Crap. Well it looks like I'm in the market for a module to install. Any reasonably priced recommendations? Doesn't have to be fancy with cellular connection and microwave proximity detector or anything. Just shock, and door detection. Hood detector too maybe, but not super necessary.

I would like something with a 2 way fob. I put one on my motorcycle and it would alert the fob when something happened with the bike. I could also remote start from the fob. Anything along those lines for this truck? I'd love to have remote start and window control to cool it down in the summer! But most importantly I want some form of alarm so that it will at least make some raucous when it's being tampered with. I'm decent with wiring if I have a wiring diagram, it's a diesel with a 5.9 Cummins if that makes a difference, stick shift, and 4wd.

I wonder if it has an imobilizer with one of those chips in the key. How do I get around that? Picture attached of key. It's an aftermarket key, I don't carry the original with me. It's in my safe at home.

Any thoughts or recommendation would be appreciated.

It's a 2005, but it's my grandpa's truck. I love this truck. It only has like 85k mi on it. And it's always been a good truck. It was my first true love. I've got it stuck several times but it figured out how to get itself unstuck with the help of 4wd and it's winch. Its hit K rail on the interstate and jumped back in the lane and kept going, never damaged anything. It's crawled over many logs, through canyons. It's been on countless fishing and camping trips. It was never really drove for anything but pleasure, now it's my going to work vehicle and I'm very grateful to have it.

With factory keys, gray is chipped key, black is not. Pull the build sheet, that'll tell you if you have SKIM (or pull the shroud on the column, it'll be painfully obvious if there's a module around the key switch).

Omfg. I thought this truck had so many features. It doesn't have anything! My grandpa thought he got such a good deal when he bought the truck! I need to add some features!!

You should list what you wanna do, guaranteed by now it's already been done lol. As for a factory alarm, yes, there was a factory one you could get, hell there's even a factory remote start kit that was available, all listed in the 2005 parts book (go to the service manual sticky). Unfortunately......those parts have been discontinued long enough that they are near impossible to find anymore so you're pretty much stuck with aftermarket.

I have a few things I definitely want.

Alarm (doors, hood possibly, and shock sensor, glass break sensor would be cool too!)
I want one of those alarms that is REALLY unnecessarily loud, and I want it to re arm after it alarms, just arming the remaining closed doors. Most of them probably do that.

Remote start (even though it's a manual trans)
That way air conditioner can actually get going!

Window control (I'm thinking about doing this with a relay board and an Arduino microcontroller.)

I desperately need a new stereo head unit in it, not having Bluetooth audio is AWFUL. (I know.. I'm a ****** queen!)

I need to pull the dash and get to the HVAC box as the recirc door is busted so it always pulls outside and inside air.

And has anyone thought about attaching a series of relays and a thermal sensor to the back of the ac/heat controls to control the blower motor speed with temp? I think that would be neat! Redneck nerd climate control kinda!
