Hey new to the forum here. I purchased a 2018 ram 1500 big horn with the 8.4 uconnect system. The screen is now halfway delaminated and going crazy on its own. Tried the dealer and tried ram cares on here. I've been told so far to bite the bullet and pay a grand to fix this problem that I am sure they know is on their end. The truck is out of warranty due to mileage so warranty is being refused and local dealer claim they never see this. ( jeff wyler in Springfield are crooks unfortunately). If I go the infotainment route (I will not give the dealer or ram another dollar of my money) will I retain the uconnect features?

Or please suggest a way to go aftermarket and retain all the factory settings that are in the uconnect system. Also how to go about formally starting a case number and anything else I need to do to have this problem go onto the tally of 2018 rams that have this problem. Seems to be widely spread not to have a recall and a fix by the manufacturer. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did @RamCares respond to you? I worked with RamCares and Uconnect and just had my radio replaced in my 2018. Here is some of what I was told.

There was a recent STAR case released in May 2021 in regard to Bubbles or Delamination On The Radio Display. Your dealer may be willing to work with you on this once they perform a proper diagnosis and consider all of the necessary information
.

Be patient, they should be able to help you.

Thanks for the responses already. The dealer said it's not covered by anything due to mileage. Ramcares did respond and said they have to stand by the dealers claim. The dealership unfortunately is not a trustworthy place but that's a whole other thing. They stated that I was able to get a second opinion so I've been waiting for other ram dealers to contact me back. Other than that I was advised that paying out of pocket is a option and hope for a recall and reimbursement in the future.

Hate to say it but I regret not buying a tundra in the first place. I definitely will be looking at them. There was a very false since of pride picking up a ram truck. Lol

Noticed a small bubble at top of display just to the right of the display about 2 months ago. Now there is a second, and it’s larger and growing. Called the stealership and told them about it. They said bring it down and they will take pictures and send them to Chrysler but ultimately will pry be able to get it replaced under warranty. Mine is a 2018 as well.

Well at least it sounds like your dealership is willing to help. If not, contact Uconnect directly.

I had a similar problem. My Connect radio would not hold a station. Jump station on it's own. Dealer replaced radio with a used radio. But apparently they did not remove the vehicle information. I received emails of vehicle issues that I did not have. So the dealer replaced the radio again. Radio works fine but SiriusXM Guardian does work and SiriusXM Guardian does know know to fix it. Thanks to outsource support.
FYI I did purchase the Mopar Extended Warranty so I only paid $200.00

Ill have to try the Uconnect route. Hopefully that’ll work out. Anyone on here running what appears to be called datalink maestro with an aftermarket? Also I have sent emails to Fiat and tried to get one to Uconnect. It keeps going to Chrysler when I go to them. Does anyone know of a direct way to contact them?

I contacted Uconnect per FCA and dealership suggestion, now they and the dealership are in direct communication to address the problem. My truck is just out of warranty by a couple of months, but I have stupid-low mileage so I may get this covered.

Mine was the exact same way and it was covered at no cost to me.

Well got the email back I’m assuming. I tried to email Uconnect and it went to Chrysler. The email says the same thing lovely RamCares here told me, pay out of pocket and hope for a recall. Pretty sad. At this point I’m thinking of keeping the unit in the truck as a rolling advertisement for Ram. Lol. Doesn’t seam like they are even willing to open a case number. May be wrong but nothing has been said other than cough up some money. Any direct email to Uconnect?

i have a hunch whats damaging the screens is heat and sun. what ive done on mine since new 4.5yr ago was cover the screen when its sitting outside . also i have a dashmat so theres never much heat building up. so far the screen seems to still be in excellent shape.
a cover couldnt reverse any damage already done but may slow any further decline

Technology sucks when it gets old and starts to flake-out -- which it generally does eventually. Esp with all the security and electronic interlocks that cause headaches as the vehicle ages. It's nice and 'whizz-bang' when new, but after a couple months of ownership, who all uses most of those deep interface features? Some guys do continue to use it, but seems like 80% of most tech could be left out and owners would be just as happy (IMO)

My dads' 2018 BigHorn is having a radio issue with the touch screen but doesn't seem to be delaminating though. I've not tried to contact RAM or Uconnect; not sure it would do any good since he bought it used. I've looked into fixing it myself but the screen unit is $600+ and nobody seems to have them in stock.
