I was reading on this forum or maybe another one.
Trucks have speed limit. Is this true? And for all Trucks?

If there way to remove it? I see some people talking AlfaOBD and connectors etc...

Anyone have list of all things including cables for 2021 Rebel?
Seen it in posts all over. not actual list.

Yes. I like to drive fast. Toll Highway I drive on, can handle 160-200km.

The speed limiter is about 105 mph/170kmh. Unfortunately the speed limiter is in the ECM and not changeable with AlfaOBD, if memory serves me correctly you need an unlocked ECM and a tune to remove the speed limit.
Unless you spend some money on suspension/wheels/tires, trucks in stock form don't handle well at high speed.

Not sure if it’s set different out of the USA but here they are speed limited to 105mph(168kmh) because of the tire speed rating. If you were to remove the speed limiter you would need to make sure your tires are rated at a high enough speed. In order to do that the vehicle would need to have the computer unlocked or an unlocked computer purchased and installed and then use a handheld programmer to turn off the speed limiter. Alfaobd is unable to disable the speed limiter.

Is this in all model years 09-18 and then the classic?

Not sure what year the pcm had to be unlocked but my 2012 the speed limiter was removed with a Diablo sport tuner. Not justifying going over the speed of the tire speed rating but I'd hate to see what the speed rating of the tires we had back in the '70's was, I'm sure I probably doubled it! Lol

15 and newer need the unlocked pcm. All government regulated vehicles have a speeed limiter set in them from factory. Some are a lot higher than others. Had a VW Jetta I hit 122mph in and was still going. Had a charger I hit 145mph in and had to let off. Not sure how much more that one had in it.

I know with my Charger and the Challenger would be the same way, it I think it was 16 or 17 they locked those down. It just now got to where you could get an unlocked pcm for them. I have been about 110 in the Ram. I’ve never hit a limiter in my Charger and I have gotten up to 115. I assume it’s 120, but dang it was a pulling hard. I agree with tire speed rating. I had a foxbody cop car in my early 20s and then again about 5 years later. Speedo read 160 and it would do all of that on tires that weren’t rated at that speed. The foxbody mustang was truly the last real muscle car IMO. I had one that I could daily drive. Throw a short belt on it and some slicks at 8psi and destroy everyone. I came within a half a second from qualifying for the old pinks all out back in 07. If you can find the Ennis Texas episode on pinks I am one of the opening cars and then I spun and lost out. The car was full weight with working A/C and a tremec. I used to be one heck of a racer. All it had was a built 347 and nos. Man I miss going down the track.

I know my Charger is locked down. Read my above and it’s probably the same way with the rams.

Thanks all for the information.

So you need unlocked ECM or PCM? Are these costly or hard to get ?

Also mentioned about Tune? Curious why you would need to tune it just to drive faster.

As for the tire part. I purchased new rims. 20X9. In process of getting tires for the new rims.
I am looking for S or R rated. Honestly, it's not really that big of issue for me.
As long as I don't kill someone else, I'm fine. Drive faster in my little chevy, no clue what tires it has, never looked.

(new drivers follow the speed limit signs! Or at least get your *** out of the fast lane)

That is sucky... I'm planning on purchasing Challenger SRT Hellcat later this year.
Just waiting for 2022 come out. Going to mod that more than the Truck.

Very simple to get. Reach out to one of our vendors here. [email protected] or Moes-performance.com.

All you need is a tuner and a modified PCM to turn the speed limiter off. There are a few tuners that offer PCM swaps and custom tunes with their hardware. Jay Greene and Hemi Fever are the most known guys.

There are a handful of reasons RAM/FCA limited the speed of these trucks. If you have a single cab, they are known to toss drive shafts at high speeds.

Ah. Thanks. Will do that. Would that also help with speed from different rim/wheels?

To get someone to tune it, you would have bring it to them?

For the guys I mentioned, you basically use a piece of hardware like a diablosport tuner or HPtuners and take a log while driving. You will then send that log back to the tuner via email and they will modify it and ask you to drive around again with their tunes until the data they see is right.

Generally, they are adjusting your afr (air fuel ratio) timing and and transmission shiftpoints based on your data logs.

This is over simplified of course and I encourage you to talk to a tuner before you decide who you go with and what you want out of a tune.

Ok. Little different than I'm what use to. Still curious why you would need to tune it, just to drive faster though.

You need to unlock it and buy a handheld tuner to remove the speed limiter which you can do by yourself but may as well get it tuned while you’re at it

Thank for the info. Checked out both them. (HP and Diablosport)

Have to decide if I want speed $800-$1000 just to remove speed limit.

I bought my Diablosport for my 2010 Charger on ebay for $150. It removed the limiter. Only tested that a couple times. ;)
