2021 3500 with 4500 miles on a 6.4 hemi, carrying a camper. We have done a number of offroad trips and the oil was looking pretty dark. I bought three 5L jugs of PZ ulta platinum and two Puro filters, so I'm set for two service intervals.

I drained the oil and installed a Fumoto 106. It will be nice to drain from a tube (3/8 I.D) into a container next time.

I bought a 74/76mm -14 flute cap wrench and it wouldn't fit, even though I test fit it at the autoparts store.
I tried a strap wrench, like the one's I grew up with and had very limited access. It just dented the filter. I've got a Torklift front receiver and access is a b*tch. I could hardly lay a glove on it and it still wouldn't budge.

My inner carpenter said, "get the hammer" and which I did.
My brand new truck! A few taps with my framing hammer I got the the wrench to seat. Using a 3/8" ratchet the rest was easy.

I hand tightened the new filter (Puro Boss), the way Dad taught me. I'll do a leak test tomorrow.

Moral of the Story: Get a BFH

I have never seen PUP 0w40 in 5L jugs. I was lucky my 2020 6.4 was only hand tight from the factory. I changed my oil at 1000 miles the first time and was surprised it twisted off so easy.

They go overboard tightening the filters at the factory, lots of people pissed at first change.

I let the dealer do the first oil change. Cost is the same as doing it myself so why have the aggravation with no upside. I do however have a really good dealer with an excellent shop and good mechanics. Also think it helps that I bring them a dozen donuts every time I bring one of my vehicles in for service. You would be amazed how much mileage you can get out of 8 bucks worth of donuts.:)

RAM should include this oil filter wrench from Harbor Freight with every new truck from the factory- best $10 tool ever. I had the same hammer issues on my first oil change. 6C51BD22-3EA5-4D17-A313-503864AB31CD.jpeg

No way in hell is my auto tech getting beer while he is supposed to be working on my truck, besides I haven’t bought beer in 40 or 50 years

How the fudge do you get that chungus in there??? I have enough trouble with my strap style wrench, which has a handle I can turn ~90 degrees!
