Will 8.4 radio from a new DT 2019-2022 Ram work electrons wise in a 2020 DS Ram Classic? I already have a new bezel

I can’t seem to find an exact answer to my question. I have a 2020 ram classic which are known as DS. It has the basic no touchscreen am/fm radio with bluetooth, hands free calling, and USB. The new 2019-2022 Rams with the new body style are called DT. I already have a new bezel, see attached picture. Will a radio from a new 2019-2022 Ram work, electronics wise, with my 2020 Ram Classic? I keep seeing 8.4 radios on eBay for a good price but they say for Ram “DT” only.

As you can see from the bezel i’m getting, I’m not upgrading the AC controls from what I already have. So will I need any type of wiring harness or will a 8.4 radio from a new DT Ram just be plug and play?

I'm guess you had 5in or smaller that you are upgrading to 8.4in which is why you are trying to keep the old AC controller. .. this should be what you need.

Thank you for the reply. That is correct, I’m not upgrading the AC controls, I didn’t really see the point. I have another question though. My current radio is the basic 3.whatever with am/fm, hands free calling, and Bluetooth, but doesn’t have Satellite radio. I know I’ll need a satellite radio antenna but will I need a SiriusXM tuner also or is that built into the 8.4 Ram radio?

Since you have the classic your truck is still 4th gen so I would personally stick with 4th gen radio's if I were you.. Where did you get that bezel from? @Mpgrimm2 is the community expert on the radio upgrades and might know the answer to your question.

Stay away from the DT radios especially Delphi (Multiple issues to work around). Get a 4th Gen 2018/19+Classic Panasonic radio.

I don't recommend that volume knob Bezel from elsewhere... They been known to cause issues with the Canbus in the truck vs full 8.4 conversion & factory Bezel. Works okay for some. Be prepared.

Sxm is built into the radios. You will need sxm/GPS puck style roof antenna and fakra extension cables (or sharkfin that adds cellular, but not needed really). Contact Forum vendor AllMoparParts for correct PN antenna for your year/cab config.

If you're an Android user, you're current USB hub should work for AA. If you're in the Apple Carplay camp, the hub needs to be replaced to support it.

Thank you for answering all my questions! I’m definitely going to stick with getting an 8.4 radio from a Ram Classic but I’m disappointed to hear that I might have trouble with the bezel I’m getting. Why is that? I also included a pic of my stock “usb” hub. Any reason why it’s not compatible with AppleCarPlay?

I have another question, is there a way to know if a 8.4 radio has Apple car play? Do all 2020 and above radios have it?

Thank you for the response. I’m looking at a 8.4 radio from a 2020 Classic from a junkyard. So it sounds like it’ll have a Apple CarPlay. Now I just need the correct USB hub.

So if I install the steering wheel volume controls, which I already have, then I shouldn’t have to worry if the volume knob on my new bezel doesn’t work right? After reading a bunch of threads on how the volume control bezels have issues, now I’m thinking I should just do the whole new bezel with new ac/heat controls.

Just reiterate again, I have a 2020 Classic. After reading a bunch of different threads on this forum I’ve decided that it’s probably best to go ahead and update the bezel with the new HVAC controls and not use the bezel with volume control that I posted a picture of at the beginning of this thread. Now my question is if I get a 8.4 radio from a donor junkyard 2019-2020 Classic truck and I get a 4th Gen Ram hvac bezel from eBay or some other place will they be compatible? Does the bezel have to be from a Classic too?

You have a 4th gen truck so any bezel from a 4th gen truck should work. There is a huge thread on updating radios that has part numbers and all that.

Thank you for the info, I think I may have come across that thread I’m not sure but I’ll look for it. It just gets a little confusing since I have a “new” truck but it’s still a 4th Gen lol

Ram is building Rams at 3 assembly plants
Warren Michigan builds 4th Gen Rams
Sterling Heights Michigan builds 5th Gen Rams

Heavy Duty Rams are built in Saltillo Mexico
they are making 4th Gen Rams, some call them Gen 4.5 because of some cosmetic changes

Any 2013-18/classic 8.4 Single Zone MTC or Dual Zone ATC Bezel can be used with the UAQ/UAS radio. HVAC module is different vs 13-17 trucks. References ....

So will this hub work? I’ll be getting the wiring harness they offer as well. It should fit right in the same spot as my current one. 7FFA11FD-2CCC-41F9-8DC2-A85DDDCA7258.png

If you go through @Mpgrimm2 on the forum here he will hook you up with everything you need except the radio. Will most likely end up being cheaper and you will get way better support on installation.
