Do Ram dealers (or auto dealers in general) really think we will all forget which of them gouged on price during this time? I’ve been considering trading in my 2020 3500 limited with a Cummins HO for a TRX (we sold our toy hauler), and have been shocked to see dealers marking up prices more than 20% above sticker. Do these guys really think that we will forget that they behaved this way once things return to “normal”?

On vehicles like TRXs, Hellcats, 392 Wranglers and even some Scat Packs, it probably won't ever be "normal" the dealer mark up has and will always be there. Even back in 2009 when the Challenger first launched, you were lucky to get one at sticker. Ask local dealers about ordering. I ordered one for a gentleman back in January and he is coming tomorrow to pick it up. Paying sticker. HDs, Jeeps and Pacificas will have market adjustments because they are difficult to get right now.

There’s a dude on YouTube up in Ohio that has a landscape business and I was watching one of his videos last week. He was looking for a new F450 last week and he said the the dealer adjustment on those was like $20K extra so I guess it depends on where you’re at.

I read an article this fall about a Toyota dealer outside of Toronto that had a repeat customer come in for another Hilander (having just had their new one stolen from their driveway). Insurance was paying for a new one.

Greasy business manager told the guy “I can sell you a replacement only if you buy our full extended warranty, paint protection, interior protection, and lifetime rustproofing!”

Customer didn’t want any of that, just his $65000 suv. Customer complained to a consumer protection journalist, and lo and behold, that’s not that dealer’s practice after all!?

Customer went elsewhere!

FFS!

I've read about dealers doing this now. They're trying to get business by making it seem as if they aren't charging a market adjustment above MSRP, but they are tacking on paint sealant, glass etching and other add-ons, then insisting you tack an extended "warranty" on your 84 month loan, because why not.

I honestly don't blame them! People are willing to pay the price and they're giving them what they want.

I hate it. This market totally slammed the door on my lifelong affliction of buying a new to me vehicle every ~2yrs. I will be driving my 2019 classic for the who knows how long.

While searching for a newer truck a couple months ago I came across one of these TRX's on a Mercedes Benz lot, a used one that was listed at $115k. I'm sorry but that's just an insane price for a hot rodded pickup. Just looked it up again and now it's down to $103,885.......what a deal!! :insane:

Only way I was able to get a discount off MSRP was to go through Costco. They took off $5K. Ford didn't even have any F150's in the Costco program.

In 2019 I purchased a 2015 Ram 1500 ED - the non-Ram dealer tacked on $799 for paint protections, etc. I was told it came with every vehicle and there was nothing I could do. purchased the truck and then contacted the State Attorney General's Office about this scam. Bottom line - $799 was refunded to me + plus they paid for my registration. Bottom line - don't get mad - get even"

Are captive and other finance companies really financing exorbitant ADM like 10k or more ?
As for the buyer, can you say "massively upside-down" !

The real problem is people are paying those prices so as long as they keep doing that the dealers will continue to mark them up. It's become normal in this instant gratification society we currently live in.

What makes it even worse is these are not "work" trucks that someone needs to survive, these are purely luxury items that people just have to have right Now!

I have yet to understand vehicle replacement so often by some folks. I hate making payments. Replaced the wife's 4Runner after owning it 17 years. Replaced my Dakota after owning it 26 years. This may be the last pickup I bought.

What goes up will come down - always does. It's a matter of when. Then the grim reaper of customer loyalty culls out the hucksters.

The cost of an education. I will remember it next time. Dealer cost did not go up, just what they can do to us.

For now, that is. Those interested in long term business relationships won't do that. Only the quick buck artists.

My grandfather had a very good saying:

Some games you win, some games you lose, and most you should never show up to.

That pretty well says it all about buying a car.
