This is probably going to be a little long. I love my new 2500, but of course, it can always be better. I've had company cars forever, so this is my first vehicle in a long time that I can mod to my liking. I've been spending time and money on my motorcycles, so I'm trying to use that experience to make good decisions and not add things that I later don't like.
With bikes anyway, making the intake more free breathing and efficient makes more difference than throwing that time and money on the exhaust, unless you go stupid noisy. I do like a loud intake honk, because once you get to steady speed, its quiet again. I also like "Factory speed" parts, because they look sano once installed. So, my first thought was, has anyone taken some air cleaner/airbox parts from the super high HP 6.x motors and adapted them for the HD trucks? The more I thought about it, the less likely it seemed, because the top ones are supercharged, and also they don't have the height under the hood that the HD trucks do. So, with all that room under the hood, does someone sell a big volume airbox/air cleaner setup that works? I should probably mention that I'm no fan of K&N filters because of my experience with them on dirt bikes, so I'm certainly not just dropping one in the stock airbox. But I probably would if there was a system that used a K&N the size of a small card table!

On to the exhaust. I love how loud the truck is on startup, sounds like a caged animal trying to escape. But once at operating temp, it's pretty tame. I do hate loud exhausts that drone on the interstate; it's like ice picks in my ears. It has a good, deep rumble as-is, I'd just like to make it more so.

I am hoping to pickup a little bit of fuel mileage by hopefully increasing the volumetric efficiency of the motor, and make it sound better too.

Thanks!

I have a Solo MR400 muffler on mine. Sounds good and not terrible with drone unless it goes into Eco mode.

I haven't bothered with an intake.

Intake will simply make more noise...claims of 'increased flow' are nice, but no actual data of one on truck showing that 'increased flow' actually does anything.. and OEM is already CAI.

I put on the Borla... nice rumble, great sound if you happen to get on it and no drone.
Zero change in mileage... about the only thing I can say is that he Borla is 30# lighter than stock.

Intakes are a waste of money without other mods to support it. Even then, all you are gaining is intake noise. These trucks are completely computer controlled. Without tuning the truck is only going to allow so much air and fuel in to the engine regardless of what you've installed. These companies claiming X amount of HP with an intake alone are full of ****. Welcome to throttle by wire and metering.

Better off getting an 87mm throttle body, headers, Y pipe and some tuning to take advantage of it all. Getting the air out is just as important as getting the air in.

Ya mean a Pedal Commander ain't gonna make my truck a contender in a NASCAR race?

If you really want to know what's going on with your throttle body get a bluetooth OBD dongle and TorquePro app on your phone. You watch how much your throttle body fluctuates regardless of throttle pedal position. You can mash the pedal to the floor and the throttle body is only opening to about 80% briefly, then backing down to about 40-50% and slowly ramping back up to 90%. On stock tuning I don't think I've ever seen my throttle bodies open 100% on either 4th gen and my current 5th gen I've owned.

No doubt...I'm just waiting for the Pedal Commander faithful to chime in with how great that useless thing is.

Have you tried a "Boom Tube"?

We can help you with any of those items. For exhaust I recommend either the Borla, magnaflow, MBRP catback or one of the Solo Performance muffler kits. Message me and we can discuss options and products.

When did they start making intakes like that? My 2016 doesn't have that! That looks similar to the Vararam.

It is pretty impressive for stock, yes? There is a big plastic cover that hides those intakes though, presumably to keep water out. He has removed it.

I think it started with the 2019s

Yeah, I'm thinking the same about keeping water out...

I'm surprised these newer trucks will take a tune.

Wouldn't a tune and parts void the warranty?

Anyone given any thought to retrofitting this setup on a 4th gen??
