I have a 2010 ram 4x4 I noticed the front rims was getting hot, so I jacked up the front end, both front tires are hard to spin by hand. So I suspect frozen calibers or a bad rubber brake line off the caliper. I was told to break the bleeder open and see what happens, both bleeders broke off. So I replaced both calipers, both rubber brake lines, new pads and rotors, yes the slide pins was also greased. Did a brake bleed, test drive, both front wheels again are hard to turn by hand. Both wheel hubs was just replaced 2 months ago, and when the brakes was off, the hub spun with ease. So I’m asking would a bad master cylinder cause just front brakes to drag. If not I’m also looking at the abs pump being the culprit. Also both back wheels spin by hand, no drag.

I actually noticed this when my wheel speed sensors were starting to act up. Do you have any active ABS faults or "phantom" dings when driving that don't generate an engine code?

I've noticed all the drag went away when the sensor in-question fully failed, and hasn't returned after repairing the wire.

No codes, no dings, nothing unusual, I did replace the wheel hub assembly, and no change in brake drag, I’ll inspect the wires tomorrow. I did replace the master cylinder, did bleed all brakes, and front brakes are still dragging, the abs pump is 2 parts, module and pump, I can get both parts for around $750 I’m tired of throwing parts at it and getting no where. There are used abs pumps on eBay, but I was told would have to be programmed by the dealer, because it was programmed for another vehicle. But a new abs pump would not, after 100 miles or so, it would learn its self to my ecm.

I haven't read too deep into the ABS options in AlfaOBD, but it does appear that you can reprogram the ABS using the app. I'm not too familiar with the actual mechanical process of it all, but it might be an option for you.

Thanks for the tip on the app alfaobd, I looked into it, looks like just what I need, I’ll use my sons android tablet, I already have a obd2 device, and I saw a guy on YouTube use it with the app. It’s only around $50 so I’m gonna get it, and toy around with it. I’m very new to this forum, so I’m learning a lot. Thanks again.

I vote for seized brake calipers. I had to replace both on the front of mine in the last couple years because the seized.

What a drag, ha. No, seriously that blows. Did you use dot 4? With hot brakes move to high wet and dry boil point fluid, 600/400. I got nothing, looks like you did everything I would have. Check all lines real good make sure not collapsed.? Can you just unplug the wheel sensor? Maybe it will throw a code but see if the wheel spins freely with abs not plugged in. I doubt it would help, if it was abs it should throw a code, this is a stumper.

It’s not the calipers, I replaced them both, and both rubber brake lines. I just got the OBD link Mx+ and the alfaobd app, I went through and tested abs module, just the motor and listen to clicks, so I’m assuming it works fine. So I went ahead and did an abs bleed with the app, still no change. So I’m just gonna keep driving it till they start smoking. I’m out of options, and tired of throwing money at it.

I replaced the master cylinder, no change. I doubt it’s the brake booster, I would assume front and back brakes would drag if it’s the booster, so I didn’t touch that, I have great brake pedal pressure, and when I bleed the brakes I have great flow of brake fluid, I’m still leaning toward the abs pump/module I read in this forum a guy had front brakes dragging and he replaced the abs pump/module and that fixed his problem. So maybe in a few months I’ll spend the money and replace that. Who knows. Thanks

Following, same thing just started with mine and I'm also suspecting the ABS module. No codes or lights. Have you found the culprit yet?

I feel like I'm reading a page out of my own life here. 2010 Laramie, same issue with a hanging caliper. Started throwing parts at the truck, only to eventually find out the hoses were deteriorated and kept slight constant pressure on the front calipers. But this wasn't until after I installed TRQ calipers, duralast carbon fiber pads and duralast rotors. So when I swapped the hoses, I did a complete flush on the brake fluid so the system had new stopping juice to work with. And ever since, not a single issue. Hope you get this figured out...
