Well I didn’t take the advise that was given to me and glue the digitizer to the LED screen with them being separated from the back light so at night I noticed a lot of glue in the backlight (almost looked like waves coming from the top of the screen). Took it apart last night, was able to keep the digitizer and LCD together but separate them from the backlight. Long story short, cleaned up the backlight, put it all back together and it even fixed the small issue I had in the lower right corner. I also put a screen protector on it.

You got me wondering now if my screen doesn't have circular cure marks in it but rather LOCA on the backlight? I'll have to check this out.

If you didn’t separate the LED from the backlight when you glued the digitizer back down, I’m sure you got some glue back there.

I used a fishing line to separate the digitizer from the LED and then used it to also separate the LED from the backlight (technically the LED was still attached to the backlight by the ribbon cable but you can fold it over and out of the way). The LED is very thin, similar to the digitizer, I got the fishing string under one of the top corners and then worked it towards the ribbons cable. The LED is only held down on the edges by tape. From there you have to take apart the backlight, there are multiple layers to it that you can pull up and clean.

Did you find anything in there that may be the cause of ghost touches on the digitizer by chance? I'm wondering if there is a way to correct that issue or if once it's been overheated its done for...

I don’t know if this one got to the point where it started to suffer ghost touching. I probably should have installed it to test it out before I started tearing into it. All I can say is I completely cleaned the digitizer and LCD and no issues so far (but I also haven’t used it to much yet). You could also try to install a new digitizer, I think you can get one pretty cheap, I’m just not sure of the quality.

I now have a crack across the lcd screen or the digitizer. Without taking the radio 20221027_174048.jpgapart, is there a way to tell which is cracked? I can run my fingernail over the crack and don't feel anything. Everything is functioning normal expect every few months I get ghost touches in the upper right corner.

It's not a crack, your screen is delaminating. It can be glued back together (messy and time consuming) or replaced (only less time consuming in your case as it looks like a lot of adhesive has leaked out and will be on the radio).

@RamCares may be able to assist you with a repair/replacement.

I'm updating this old thread because I finally replaced the screen. The ghost touches all of a sudden started going nuts. Radio or Navigation was useless. To my surprise the price of 8.4 screens have come down dramatically. Paid $131 plus tax on ebay. Glad I waited. Replacement was easier than I thought it would be.

I'm very curious how the cheaper screen worked out, image quality and if they sent you a genuine LG
SL02 or SL03 screen or a refurbished screen/digitizer assy for that price?

Got a link?

PS: I just swapped out a bad SL02 with an OeAutoTronics LG SL03 screen (New) for $250.

Note: OeAutoTronics only offers a $20 core credit for a screen/Digitizer assy. (Working but with bubbles)
