I suppose feel free to identify how long your trans lasted on the original fluid too before experiencing problems if you did have a trans failure or issues.

Made it to just over 50,000 kms, before mine went south, but it might have something to do with putting down 572 lb-ft @3200 rpm at the rear tires, and 500 dragstrip passes on drag radials, lol

Rick, I would've loved to see the look on the face of the R&R guy when they opened up that one for the rebuild......lol.

I have 185k miles, just rebuilt top end of engine and my 8speed still shifts like new. No flush yet.
First of all, hilarious name. Are you the original owner and have you never even changed the fluid (not a flush although those usually don't bode well to remove all at once)? That's impressive but this ZF 8 speed fluid is very good

I bought it at 46k miles. No flushes/fluid change at all. I'm scared to do anything since it still works like new...lol Carfax had all dealer oil changes from previous owner but no other work.

i highly doubt anyone touched the trans and yeah at this point let it be. Only an enthusiast would think to replace it because that's not even something on the average person's mind. I don't plan to keep mine passed 100k probably because I only put 6k a year on mine and its at 62k almost so no big.

haha, i mean if you're changing ZF trans fluid that soon, i think crazy is probably a good term to use but at the same time if your truck ends up going 300k miles with no issues, then we're all the crazy ones, not you. Actually, this thread is ONLY for folks who have never changed their fluid. Mainly, i'm wanting to gather how "lifetime" this fluid is before we start to see a trend and possibly what we could realistically expect but the problem still lies with: A) we are not all in the same climates, B) we don't all tow, C) we all have different driving habits etc etc. I'm probably going to have my exhaust routed around the pan if possible so I can just do it myself. It is not a hard procedure. The hardest part is levling the transmission and getting the back end off the ground is kind of necessary anyways so that you can get the truck into 2nd gear for the procedure but that part isn't 100% necessary.
Where is the option for the crazy people that change their fluid at 30k miles?

My 2012 I bought pre-owned. I have all of the service records from previous owner(just one previous owner). The business that owned the truck took in to get all the work done at one shop. I show all of the oil changes and smog checks but no transmission maintenance/fluid changes for the 65RFE. So assuming that the fluid/filter had never been done it worked up to 236,259 miles where at that point it was swapped with a remanufactured. Luckily it had a transferable warranty because when I bought it, it had a slow leak. Took it back in to the same shop that did the work and it was completely swapped under warranty. Apparently the torque converter seal and torque converter was bad. Only had to be without truck 3 weeks and didn't have to pay a penny.

You are right it is totally dependent on your usage. IMO no fluid is truly lifetime. I bought a trailer this year so I have some extra wear from towing, but I put in a heater bypass so my max towing temps are less than standard operating temps with the heater installed. Also just to note, you dont have to reroute the exhaust to drain and swap fluid. The only "special" tool you need is to trim down an allen key for the drain plug. I've actually changed mine 3 times already but thats a longer story lol.

I've changed my 14 at 60k miles. OEM pan and fluid.

My 16, is 64k and never touched. I have planned to change but have to be home to do so.

My 15 durango RT, is at 26k, so it will probably age out vs mileage.

I just brought my 18’ Ram to the dealer at 105k miles and asked them to do the transmission service. They said it’s not required, ever. I was surprised considering I was going to pay for it. But they said “Dodge does not recommend ever changing the fluid on the 8 speed”. Seems hard to believe

ZF says 80,000 to 130,000 kms /50,000 to 80,000 miles or every 8 years which ever comes first. Who you believe is up to you,but i'm not so inclined to believe FCA/Stellentis all that much, lol
