Took my truck in for 30,000 mile service last week. When the service writer told me all the stuff they wanted to do I about s**t myself. I told him to only change the oil and give an itemized list, with price of what they wanted to do. I have no problem following the prescribed services, but this seems a little over the top. Is all of this really needed, or are they trying to pay for someones Christmas bonus with my truck? BTW, I did have the tire replaced at my local Discount tire and it was $100 less than the dealership wanted.

Seems like regular dealer stuff, cabin air filter is half that cost retail and takes about 5 minutes or so, and the tire could be a concern, are they warrantied anywhere? Take it to Discount Tire and see what they say about it. The rest I wouldn't touch on a 30k truck.

Typical up sellng stuff. The place I have gone to for 40 years and have 100% trust in suggests many of these items as well but it seemed it was at much higher mileage. I told them to flush the brakes next time I need a brake job. The owner finally retired and it's been bought by some place that is gobbling up independent outfits. GreatWater. I just saw they bought another shop nearby that's been around forever. Last time I was in for oil I was talking to the girl that usually works on my van if she saw many changes yet with the new ownership. Fortunately not many was her reply.

Cabin Air Filter $15-$25 at Walmart. Do it yourself, YouTube it. Brake Flush at 30K ahhhhhh, on a 2 year old truck, maybe.

Right Out of Manual: 30,000 MX on MY 19.

OP, U up by Fort Worth. Gotta be a lot of dealer choices, I would look at another dealership, IMHO...

None of it is really necessary. It’s all a money making scheme for the dealership. As others have said the cabin air filter is $15 and a 5 minute replacement and you can find out how on YouTube. The brake fluid flush on a 2021 with 30k miles? I’d pass and wait till spring then do it myself. It’s not difficult and will cost you about $20 for fluid and a length of tubing. The coolant flush is highway robbery! I haven’t seen a 2021 owners manual but I’d bet it’s a 100k mile, ten year coolant in your truck. Unless your cooling system has been compromised it’s a complete waste. Induction service and throttle body cleaning? Use a good fuel injection cleaner once a year and clean the throttle body yourself for less than $10.

BG products = hocus pocus. Don't buy any of the BG bs. If it isn't a required service in your owner's manual, don't do it...Except for that tire. Go to a good tire shop and have that looked at.

They give you an owners manual and service schedule for a very good reason. If you actually read it, you don't end up falling for these dealer profit padding recommendations. Follow the factory schedule, then you are fully covered on warranty or extended warranty. Dealership is just doing what they do, trying to make money. What I do find offensive is the wording, "sevice related to the ongoing safety and performance was postponed", like something is going to break or hurt you if you don't do this stuff. Wonder how many people fall for that wording.

This one, like so many, is far more interested in their good than yours. There are good dealerships, and lots of great independent shops, look for one you can trust BEFORE you need a big dollar repair done.

x2 on this. None of the stuff they've listed are going to hurt your truck, so if they can convince you to cough up the dough, they're happy.

Cabin air filter is a $20 part and takes 5 minutes to replace. I check mine once a year and replace if it looks dirty.

At around 60K (5 years old) I had a brake flush and power steering fluid change - I could tell the difference.

I don't think anyone meant to imply that regualr fluid changes and maintenance are not required, the issue is, dealerships trying to get you to do them 2 or 3 times as often as they are actually required. There is ZERO benefit to changing out 2 year old coolant at 30,000 miles when it has a service life of 10 years or 100,000 miles. I don't know how humid it is where the OP is in Texas, but changing brake fluid every couple of years seems excessive too. Only reason it ever needs changing is due to getting water in it.

As others have said, most looks like dealer "recommendations", based on mileage. Dealer recommends are never the same as manufacture! If they told you they are "recommended" and not "Needed" their is nothing wrong with the dealer. The decision is yours. As also stated you can (depending on YOUR skill , and YOUR tools) do a lot of it yourself.
HOWEVER a "bubble" in the side wall if round could be warranty from tire manufacture as that could be a ply seperation, If it is long and narrow like a finger it was probably cause by an impact ( like driving through a deep pot hole this could be covered by "road hazarrd" if you had it) also an interal ply break, in EITHER CONDITION this makes it a NEEDED replacement. Everyone has their "OPINION" of when and what to do as "Preventative maintence". These are things each decides for themselves. based on your $ and your experience as the owner of motorized vehicles ( or what most of us own, are actually vehicles with engines). Extra service NEVER hurts as most as no service. Unless it is a leasted vehicle- as it is not yours it theirs. And dealers usually do the minimun on them.

It's like dealerships that still recommend oil changes every 3k miles. The main purpose is to get you into a service bay as often as possible in order to line their pockets.

That Prosper dealer is well known for being an excessively scummy dealership. Almost all dealers are this way, just a fact of life. Go dirt your gut and don’t do any of that **** but change the cabin filter yourself.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I had the tire replaced the next day, and I did my own cabin filter swap earlier this year. Unfortunately for the few honest dealers out there, this kind of stuff is precisely why almost all car dealers are lumped into the "bottom feeder" category.

brake fluid every 2-3 years if you're using a hygroscopic (water-absorbing) DOT III or IV. You can also tell if the brake pedal starts getting spongy.

Must be really humid where you are. Brake fluid systems are pretty well sealed for the most part. Here in Alberta, we typically change brake fluid when we do the brakes, that can be 10 or more years depending on the vehicle. Very rarely see water in our brake fluid here.

Mechanics kind of have to find their own work. Sadly the 'system' of pay and incentives kind of puts them in a bind sometimes.

In Tx it's dry ..you could probably go 8 years ...10 years before you have to replace the fluid depinding on which part of the state you live in. When it starts to look the color of a brown Beer ..somewhere between light and dark ..that's when it's absorbed enough water to exchange. Go by the color not the age. Storage conditions, local humidity, etc will affect how long it'll take to get to that point.

Get the tire checked out, inspect the throttle bore for deposits, that's routine maintenance. When the throttle is closed there's a very smaaaal gap. Doesn't take hardly any deposits to throw off idle at that point. It's a 5-min DIY procedure to clean. Don't worry about the other stuff yet.
