Just got a map update notice from UConnect. I did one earlier update on my truck but was not impressed as it still couldn’t find restaurants and gas stations that have been around for years. On my Garmin GPS units I can load OpenSourceMaps into the gps and they work as well or better than the ones Garmin supplies. Is it possible to load OSM into the Nav system on my truck and have the system use them?

Plan B is that for not much more than Uconnect wants I can buy a decent Garmin navigation unit and mount it on the dash, but I hate the extra clutter.

thx,
DG

No help here ... but I'm interested in learning how to update OSM maps into a Garmin GPS.

Have had several Garmins thru the years, I now have 2 1490 w/lifetime maps and the most recent updates suck and turned 1 into a brick and out-of-memory errors, etc. Garmin was no help - suggesting I buy a new one - guess what - that ain;y gonna happen - their updates take you in circles, etc.

Also interested in learning how to update the maps in my 2016 Laramie.

To upgrade the Navigation Maps on your Ram
It will cost you about $149 per d/l

When you get it, the update will be 6 months to a year behind
The last time i checked, the maps are made by a subsidiary of Nokia called Navigation.com & the name they use for the maps is HERE North America

You will be very disappointed if you buy the new map & buy another map within 3 years

They don't build many roads in a years time, so they don't show hardly any new maps.
They only real updates are the different businesses, like Starbucks, Crispy Creme, because they are always building & moving

For not much more than $150 one-time money you can buy a Garmin GPS with lifetime map updates included. And, the GPS will be more accurate, easier to use, and can be used in your other non-Nav vehicles.

Factory nav units are terrible—always out of date and unable to find in their database the 5yr-old restaurant a block away. Forget UCONNECT; get a Garmin and be done with it.

best,
DG

LOL - that has to be one of the most useless step by step guides I've ever seen.

Yep, saw that page right before I clicked on this link in the google search. Curious if it's possible but doubtful.

Well I have tried to follow his lame step-by-step directions and have had no luck. So I sent him a message to see if he could explain it with better details. Now I'll wait and see what he says! Keep in mind, I posted to see if any one here has tried this and knew of better directions than what he has!
I did get my map file downloaded. It seems they work for Garmin units and has very high details in the maps. I was hoping for better details and an updated map for Uconnect since I have a 2017 and it doesn't have Android Auto or Car Play.
My next step may be asking Benny what radio I need to replace mine and do an upgrade!
I'll update if the guy emails me better directions!

Reading through his steps, I think the guy has NEVER put an OSM map on his UConnect Nav system. Blowing smoke out his tail pipe, I think.

Just buy a Garmin Drive, mount that sucker on the dash, and forget UConnect navigation.

What model Garmin Drive would you suggest?

Garmin has different size screens

I have a Garmin or 2 some where in the garage, the good thing about Garmin is that a lot of their GPS comes with Lifetime Maps & Traffic

I chose to use a Truckers Magellan GPS that has a dashcam within the unit.

Most people want mapping for cars, so a truckers map is not for everyone

I prefer the Garmin Nuvi 3590. If I need to use a smaller screen I use a 3790, basically the same as the 3590 buy smaller. I think both have been discontinued but maybe still available. I used to sell Garmin products and still have some of the above, both new and like new display models, if interested pm me
