What do all of you think a 1985 Dodge 4x4 ,eight foot box, automatic, needs an engine would be worth?
Body is straight. The guy is asking $1000. I think that is a stretch but not sure. Needs tires also.
Thanks, Gary

i'M SURE THAT'S MORE THAN i WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY. bUT IF it was a really nice truck & Lots of stuff I like . I might move my bid to that.
I'm thinking my top bid would be more like $750.00

Really depends on condition. How is the interior? If it's nasty and moldy, you will have extra expense/work to get it roadworthy. How long has it been sitting? Parked in a field someplace for multiple years is not good. If it was registered and inspected in the last few years, I would feel a lot better about it.

Would not assume the truck only needs a motor. All bushings and ball joints are no good if original. Trans could be bad. Axel seals. Wire harness. At almost 30 years old, all rubber components are probably bad. What’s your intention with the truck? Camp use only? Daily driver?

& What do you do if it needs a wiring harness..
I've got a Jeep V8 that needs a wiring harness . squirrels ate most of it .
I'd not heard of any places to get them.
... Yes your correct WHEN i'M Talking to SOMEONE ABOUT BUYING AN OLD RIDE I always tell them... After you get it running again .. Then iS WHEN YOU REALLY START spending the Small item cash that makes it a better truck with each replacement part. But that to can add up fast.
Now your a gambler

He wants $1000 for it which I think is little steep. I have bought trucks for a $1 to $200 dollars and wind up putting $2500 in to them so I am thinking it is another money pit.

I had a 85 Dodge 4x4. I thought it was really a nice truck, and kept for 10 years. The 360 in it was a "slug" and very thirsty. Other than that, I really like the truck.

Absolutely reasonable.... and while you procrastinate, he will well it to someone else!
BTW: New tires or old tires along with other consumable maintenance items have no bearing on a vehicle's value.
