A buddy of mine just got a nice dent into his 2005 ram short bed.. We got quoted close to 2k to get the dent out. My question is how much would it be to buy a new side panel and where could i buy one? is it something that I could buy and replace it myself?
also would it be a good idea to go to a salvage yard and see if they got some rams there and get a panel from there and get it painted and put it on his truck?
just trying to see what my options could be.. I feel I could do it cheaper if I could find a new panel or find a used one and be able to put it on ourselves..
just seeing what the experts got to say. Thanks

No idea. But a salvage yard isn't going to let you pull a panel off of another box. They will want you to buy the whole bed. Your best bet is probably going to be buying another bed the same colour. You can buy southern rust free beds for ~$1500.

I think you can buy replacement panels off LMC, then you just have to cut and weld to replace

You should be able to get a new OEM bedside for under $ 400.00 ( shop discount rate ) If your close to Dallas TX I can help you out with parts , or maybe order it where you can pick it up in your area .
It is an easy fix , just unbolt the 6 or 8 bed bolts , disconnect yout tail light wire harness amd gas filler . Drill out the spot welds , dont forget the ones on the lower pinch weld and inner fender well . Them you can pull held a new one in place or use 3M panel bond for a quick no weld repair and no worries about rusting from the repair .

By the time you were to get a repair panel, have it installed, painted, you'd be in it for more than $2000. If you have never welded body panels before, this isn't something to practice on. Doesn't take much to warp a panel that size.
