My friend has a 2007 2500 6.7 Cummins.. His truck has been at the dealership with dpf problems. Long story short the dealer wanted 3k to fix his truck. Finding the parts for the DPF delete is not a problem, he wants a smarty jr programmer that is compatible with a DPF/EGR delete, but have been unable to do so. Does anyone carry a smarty jr compatible with a DPF delete? I heard a rumor that companies are no longer allowed to produce these programmers?

They are no longer being made because of the EPA but can be purchased at a premium
Id recommend him finding a H&S tuner anyway

Is a DPF delete compatible with a regular programmer? What exactly is the difference, I was at an understanding that codes could be cleared with a regular programmer.

It depends on the goals. I just did the DPF delete on my '12 this weekend. I used a Flo~Pro DPF delete pipe and SIMS to 'fool' the ECM instead of loading a tuner. Today was the first real drive with it and have zero issues. No CEL or trouble codes or anything. I put about 40 miles on it today mixed driving and my MPGs went up from 15.5 to 18. If you don't need the extra HP I highly recommend SIMS.

And as far as programmers go, RaceME is the new Smarty JR. You have to order from Austria (i think) but at $600 shipped it is the best deal around. The H&S is worth every penny if you are wanting custom tunes or to milk every last drop of power out of your engine but be ready to pay $$$$$ For deletes and mild power increase the RaceME is pretty hard to beat...

**EDIT - just checked the website and price just went to $600 due to falling rate of conversion of US$ :emotions122:

He wants a small power increase, and a fuel mileage increase. And he wants to get rid of a problem, that could come back again later(DPF)

And could you elaborate on what a 'SIMS' is?

SIMS are just 100ohm resistors that you plug into all the temp sensors that would normally plug into the exhaust pipe. The resistors give a false reading to the ECM and tell it that the exhaust is too hot and to not start a regen. Some truck will get a Check Engine Light from this which can then be cleared with a code reader. I have not seen this on my truck yet so i might not.

This is where i ordered mine from RSD Online

Also, SIMS will not add power. Although he may feel a slight increase from removing the DPF, especially if he is having problems with it, but nothing that will show up on a dyno.

EFI-Live is his best bet for cost vs result for his desired plans. H&S Mini Maxx race tuner is right there as well. They both have their benefit, but the H&S has optional trans tuning which is a huge plus in the 68RFE.
This is pertaining to him since he's not looking for much more power (as long as he sticks to that, which most don't once they see how the truck responds once tuned)..
Simple tune, mild hp and fuel economy bump .... EFI all the way.
If you have any thought of adding a little more than a mild amount of power (60hp) then you need to weigh the costs of each..

Gauges are big once tuned...
EFI has none, it's just tuning. The main gauges can run upwards of $500 once installed,... if you want to monitor more then the price climbs.
H&S has built in gauges... Boost, EBP, optional EGT, trans temp, engine temp, rail pressure, trans line pressure just to name a few....You'll pay more, but you get a lot more..

Someday it may be available....But you can get a Mini with MCC by Ryan for your truck..... His tuning is top notch. The best of both worlds.... Trans tuning, gauges, and awesome tuning......

I would really love to get a mini with trans unlock and custom tuning but I just can't justify spending that kind of money. Not because its not worth it but i just don't plan to push my truck that hard. If I ever start really pushing the truck then that will be my first purchase.

Having options is great but I wish the options weren't so expensive :( if only I had bout my Cummins a year earlier....

If your friend wants a delete capable tuner, he needs to start searching now. The EPA cracked down on companies back in November and they can no longer sell "race tuners" in the US. There are a few left on vendors shelves however.
