I apologize if this has already been asked and answered. I have spoke with three different dealerships about putting tow mirrors on my truck, they all have said that Mopar does not make tow mirrors for my truck. The truck has power folding, heated mirrors, puddle lights, and led turn signals. I have been told that because of the power folding there is no tow mirror upgrade for my truck. I also found this website and this mirror https://www.1aauto.com/ram-mirror-pair-trail-ridge-tr00053/i/trmrp00053?f=1111816&y=2017 I contacted the company and they said it will not work with my truck because it does not have the memory function. I cant be the only Ram owner that has this problem. Does anyone know where to buy a tow mirror that will work/ or buy some adapter to make a tow mirror work. Thanks in advance!

Dealer's only know how to pull up your VIN and look at standard equipment in most cases. They can be a bit clueless at the dealer but most of us have done a mirror swap on at least one of our trucks.

@wvsize The side mirrors on 14-18 RAM trucks (1550, 2500 & 3500) are all the same physical and electrical fitment. No one has been able to figure out why the sales staff at A1 keeps telling people they don't fit '17-18. As @MADDOG said, the dealer is only going by options originally available for your 1500 and in that they are correct, power folding tow mirrors were not offered. But they were offered on the 2500+ and since all the mirrors fit/connect/function the same...

I have the Trail Ridge power folding, heated tow mirrors with puddle lights and led turn signals from 1AAuto on my truck. Since yours already has all the functionality but the tow mirror part you will just need to have either the one sales code for tow mirrors added by the dealer or get a copy of AlphaOBD and an MX dongle and turn it on yourself (the better option IMO).

The tow mirror option code is needed to have the mirror controls work in the correct orientation when flipped up into tow position. If you were closer (or if you happen to be traveling through NY) I'd happily take the 5 minutes to set the code for you.

#kad do you have any vibration in the mirror it self creating blurry images? I had a set on my old truck that did that.

Nope, none at all. But I did add the tow mirror braces inside the door that any RAM with tow mirrors comes with from the factory. I highly recommend that anyone switching from normal size mirrors to tow mirrors add them as well. They are not very expensive and they aren't hard to install.

Here's the part numbers:

Right Bracket 68078242AA
Left Bracket 68078243AA
Nut Rivit (6) 6507161AA

There's no new harness, but you would need new door modules and a new driver's door switch. The OP already has power folders, so he doens't need the new modules or switch.

I went from Manual Folding, Power Adjust, Heated Regular mirrors to the Power Folding, Power Adjust, Heated, Turn Signal, Puddle Lamp Tow Mirrors and I needed the following:

Trail Ridge Mirrors - TR00042
Door Module, Right - 68225102AC
Door Module, Left - 68225103AC
Right Bracket - 68078242AA
Left Bracket - 68078243AA
Nut Rivit (6) - 6507161AA
Bracket Nut (6) - 6508709AA
Switch Panel - 68110867AB

If you are going to Power Folding Regular mirrors you won't need the brackets, nut rivits or nuts.

The easiest/cheapest way to add the codes is to get the AlphaOBD app/dongle. The dealer will not add the power folding code to lower trim trucks, at least not without a major case with FCA and that's not always successful. I see that you have a 2018, so you'll need a bypass cable as well to allow the AlphaOBD to work, you can get one from M2 Mods here on the forum. It's still better than trying to get the dealer to do it.

Ah you are the best....a clear concise list of what I need....I think I am going to start this project next since I believe I have the same ones as you ( manual fold, heated, power adjust ) . Yeah after a lot of reading on the dealers I don't think I would even attempt for them to do my codes. Being that I would like the DRL on as well I may look into getting this Alpha tool.

Just curious...Are the Alpha tools married to the car or if I found someone in my area that had one, I can use that one?

The AlphaOBD app and dongle are not married, they work with any 2013+ FCA vehicle you plug them into. And the dongle works with pretty much any vehicle as a generic scan tool with it's default software as well. Where in NY are you? If you're near Dutchess County I'd be willing to set the codes for you, but you'll need to get the security bypass cable, I don't have one (not needed on my '14).

Great list @kad, thanks for putting it together. I have the manual fold, heated, signal, puddle light tow mirrors and have wanted the power folding ones since I got one clipped off to the tune of $700 for an OEM replacement.

I've been looking at the kit from infotainment (https://www.infotainment.com/collec...r-folding-mirrors-package?variant=42102850887) but they want $1400!!

Have to start sourcing these parts, definately worth it for the price difference.

Hey KAD;

great info for the parts list for this I want to do the same set up and am starting with the same set up you started with the basic power adjust, heated, manual folding mirrors and want to change to the Towing power fold, power adjust, flip up with turn signal and puddle lights,to my 2017 1500 Express CC, do you by chance know the RAM sales codes needed to add to make these all work, or is it different using the AlphaOBD/OBDlink MX tool

Thanks

So after reading several post if I purchase the tow mirrors from A1 with the same features that my truck already has then the new mirrors will work without having to do any coding changes? I have the sport mirrors power folding, heated turn signal, puddle light. And if I had to due any coding can I do it myself and will it void warranty?

For setting with Alpha it would be the following codes:

Doors Configuration:
Puddle Lamp Present: Set
Folding mirrors present: Set
Mirror turn signals present: Set
Mirror Approach Lights Present: Set
Tow Mirror Present: Set

Once upon a time I had a list of the sales codes to have a dealer do it, but I discarded it after learning that they would not do the power folding one on my truck (or on any Express). I'm sure you can find them here on the forum if you're determined to go that way, but given what most of the dealers charge to do it, going with the Alpha tool is cheaper and easier.
