Look on the trailer , Does it have a break fluid cap? sounds to me like have built in breaks on the trailer. Do you have an extra hole to move the pin to disengage trailer brakes?
Be aware that if you get in an accident and you are over what it says on your door sticker or even if you just get pulled over for a check and you are over that sticker you can get yourself in a lot of trouble. I would stay within the legal limit for your truck which is the number on the door...
Don't do it. You will hate being maxed out when you ARE GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL OR BEING BLOWN OVER BY THE SEMI'S. Or worrying if this will be the rain and wind storm that kills you and the family. Stay safe over comfort. One more thing is if you are ever in an accident that isn't your fault you...
My humble opinion, Why even worry about an extra 150 bucks a year in gas? go for the bigger engine if you are going to tow especially if you plan on keeping it long term.
