    You don't really need the expensive special oil for a 6.4. I run rotella t6 5w40 in it since it was new and have over 70k miles on it and haven't had one problem. I usually buy it in bulk when it's on sale for $24 bucks a gallon. So I might have $50 bucks in an oil change

    Did it do this since the day you got it? Or has it been getting worse as time went on? I would definitely yank the battery out for a while and reset the computers. Probably wouldn't hurt to check the spark plugs and clean the throttle body and run some fuel injector cleaner through it

    you're probably better off keeping the 1500 unless you really need the extra capacity. Mine with 35s get about 11mpg average. Plus empty it rides like an old Conestoga wagon lol

    I would definitely stay with a half ton. I mean a 3000 lb trailer isn't even half of what it can pull. Plus all the time you're riding around not pulling anything you're going to be getting 10 miles a gallon cuz that's all I get in my HD :(
