    Upgrades capable of towing maximum

Growing up with some really slow vehicles, I'm of the opinion that sometimes you deal with lousy performance and are ok with it. Sure, your truck could pull that trailer, especially with some upgrades/mods. That said, there's a huge difference between could and should. Towing with a trailer...

    Tires

Getting the right tire requires an honest assessment of what you need in a tire. Sounds like OP has done that and is on the right track, so that puts them ahead of a lot of folks. Good video on Trail Built Off Road's Youtube channel comparing the Falken AT3W and AT4W. Personally, the AT3W...

    2025 Ram 1500 TRX Drops 6.2L Hellcat V8, New 3.0L Hurricane I6 Packs Over 500 HP

Dunno why so many of you are complaining about the sound of a straight six's exhaust... Oh wait, it's not a Cummins.

    Muffler options

Sound is subjective. Personally, I like the deeper tones vs. the brap-brap, raspy wet fart sound. The video link that 04fxdwgi :waytogo: posted is an excellent way to compare different ones back to back. Note that there are other manufacturers that offer similar choices if you find one you like.

Pros/Cons on gear swap/ GearVendors OD

My truck has the GV unit, but I'm running 3.73 gears and an NV5600. Drops my 70 MPH RPM from around 2,100 to around 1,700 IIRC. Since I almost never do a full tank of driving that's mostly higher speeds, I can't give you a full tank, scientific MPG comparison, but on tanks where I get to run...

    Halogens? Why?

    White/blue IS that color range.

    Halogens? Why?

Not a boomer, but I'm going to sound like one here. Most LED headlamps are in too high of a color range to be effective for good vision. Sure, they're bright AF and light things up like almost to the point of needing sunglasses at night, but the color temperature on the Kelvin scale of 5k to...

    Towing question

Correlation. Causation would be when the fuel gauge goes from high to low quicker than normal, which is what generally happens when towing anything. Poorly is how a half ton would act towing most toy haulers. As others have said, there are a few small, featherweight ones, but most are big...

Halogen lights. Are they really that bad??

In a word, no. While LED lights look bright, they seem to wash out details for me, even when I had perfect vision. The color temperature in Kelvin is the cause, and I suspect that some of us are more sensitive to this. Aging makes it worse for most people. Unfortunately, people seem to...

    Gear ratio swap for highway

Here's a great site I always recommend for comparing tires. You can use the calculators on the left side to figure out sizes of different tires or compare two different tires for height, width, etc. One of the tabs gives details about a particular size, and the other allows comparisons between...

    Gear ratio swap for highway

I have your exact setup, and I would NOT change the gearing. I don't use 1st/granny unless I'm towing or need to creep slowly. Currently running 285-70/17's and will soon be running 255-80/17's. That's 1.1" and 1.5" taller than your tires. Granted, I have a Gear Vendors overdrive unit, which...

cold air intake is it worth time?

Performance gain is obtained only if you install the stickers that come with the "cold" air kit on your truck's windows.

    Stick shift anyone?

Pure effin' joy isn't measured in tenths or car lengths. My truck has the NV5600, which is far from a quick or smooth shifting transmission. If I play it just right, it will shift like butter. Other times it still shifts like butter, just semi-frozen. Part of the fun is improving my skills...

    Synthetic Oil

Thanks for the tip! I see that it's Cummins recommended. How bad (or irrelevant) is switching oils in your opinion? Some people warn about different additive packages not being totally compatible and leaving deposits when interacting. In this case it would just be the remaining old oil left...

    Synthetic Oil

Interesting discussion, as I'm coming up on an oil change. Have been looking in horror at the Rotella T6 price having gone up over 80% since my last oil purchase. I prefer to run that, but if it's a $100 difference in price for an oil change vs. Delo 400... Really like the Costco availability...
