Muffler options
Sound is subjective. Personally, I like the deeper tones vs. the brap-brap, raspy wet fart sound. The video link that 04fxdwgi :waytogo: posted is an excellent way to compare different ones back to back. Pros/Cons on gear swap/ GearVendors OD
My truck has the GV unit, but I'm running 3.73 gears and an NV5600. Drops my 70 MPH RPM from around 2,100 to around 1,700 IIRC. Since I almost never do a full tank of driving that's mostly higher speeds, I can't give you a full tank, scientific MPG comparison, but on tanks where I get to run...- Blue Truck

Correlation. Causation would be when the fuel gauge goes from high to low quicker than normal, which is what generally happens when towing anything. I have your exact setup, and I would NOT change the gearing. I don't use 1st/granny unless I'm towing or need to creep slowly. Currently running 285-70/17's and will soon be running 255-80/17's. Stick shift anyone?
Pure effin' joy isn't measured in tenths or car lengths. My truck has the NV5600, which is far from a quick or smooth shifting transmission. If I play it just right, it will shift like butter. Thanks for the tip! I see that it's Cummins recommended. How bad (or irrelevant) is switching oils in your opinion? Some people warn about different additive packages not being totally compatible and leaving deposits when interacting. In this case it would just be the remaining old oil left...- Blue Truck
