"Check Gas Cap" and Several CEL Codes

Took the truck on a 1,300 mile round trip roadtrip over the past five or so days. I drove it for a few days pre-trip with the new purge valve, then hit the highway. No CEL the whole time and averaged right at 20 MPG. Got the CEL to pop back on while staying at our Airbnb, and it was for the...

"Check Gas Cap" and Several CEL Codes

Did you replace the hose coming off of the valve? The part I ordered comes with a new hose which may help with fitment. If not, I'll keep the hose clamp idea in mind!

"Check Gas Cap" and Several CEL Codes

Thanks all. Just ordered the new part and it looks super simple to install. I have some generic code reading software with a Bluetooth OBD II reader on my laptop, but have thought about buying Appcar/DiagFCA if it's worth it. Thinking it'd be helpful to look into more modules with more clarity...

"Check Gas Cap" and Several CEL Codes

Trying to figure this out as I've learned the Mopar CPO warranty is for drivetrain only and this ancillary stuff isn't necessarily covered. 2016 Ram 1500 5.7L with 47k miles. I don't drive it much and it's parked in an underground garage most of the time. About 1500 miles ago, I got a CEL and...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

Well, I got the truck back with a new transmission. Picked it up on a Thursday night and took it to my parents' for the holidays on Saturday morning. Was motioned to pull over by a driver on the highway, turns out trans fluid was leaking from somewhere onto the exhaust and making a lot of smoke...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

My issue isn't related to either of the two you mention, both of those sound like normal enough TCU programming. My truck, when it sits overnight, will engage Reverse so hard on the first Park-to-Reverse shift that it feels like it'd bark the tires if my foot wasn't on the brake. That is...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

Yeah, I am curious about software as well. Guess we'll see how it goes. If the new trans lasts for another 44k miles, the truck will have 88k on it and can get another one installed before that CPO 100k mile warranty expires.

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

It's just been a few PMs documenting my experience so far. I would recommend reaching out to them directly with your concerns as they've been great. Update on my truck: I dropped it off on Sunday night at the second dealership (not the one who replaced the valve body). The service advisor...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

Sitting in Neutral for a few minutes doesn't help at all. Have not tried Tow/Haul but cold operation does seem much better behaved when I am towing, and I engage it immediately after starting the truck and it still sitting in Park, so that theory could test out. Regardless, it's not normal for...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

Update, I tried the "Park to Neutral, then Reverse" trick mentioned above and that didn't really help much. I have whatever stock cooler they come with, assuming there is one. My Fords all had them from the factory. I'll have to give my service advisor a ring and see about a TCU software update.

    1500 enclosed trailer

I pull an enclosed racecar trailer with my 1500 Sport. 20' box, 4' v-nose, overall length including the a-frame up front is about 27'. Full aluminum construction means it weighs about 6500 lbs with my BMW M3 and various tools, parts, wheels, etc inside. The truck does fine. I have the air...

8-Speed Slams Into Reverse When Cold, Harsh 1-2 Upshift

Hi all, just picked up a 2016 Ram 1500 Sport. It's CPO, had 41,500 miles when I purchased in late August and now has 43,500 on the odometer. Love the truck but this ZF 8-speed (which is great in literally everything it's bolted to) has been acting weird when fluid is cold. The first shift from...
