ok...shrug, bare with me here.
one year ago I had 4 new toyo AT2 tires installed at town fair tire. Everything was great.
A few months ago I had a leaking shock in the front.
I installed 2 front bilstein 5100s myself using the stock springs, stock height.
Everything...
So I installed the bilstein 5100 in the front. Using the manual threaded spring compressor it was not a difficult job.
Do I recall reading I should get an alignment after this?
For you guys that like the bilsteins (the only one that seems to be universally rated well).
I've read about ride improvement. Would this still be viable doing just the front struts only? And setting to factory height. Not looking for any lift.
Update. Looked under the truck, I see the back...
So I did buy these. Still in the box, "just fine" is all I'm looking for. However now I'm reading many reviews of them waring out quickly and/or broken springs, uneven springs, bottoming out, sound like a low quality part. Starting to regret it and doing a little more reading before I do the...
Just called my local non dealer mechanic shop I have worked with before. They are telling me my truck does a "quick strut" swap the whole strut and coil as one part. $900, same as the dealer price.
Parts are $440 still looking at doing it myself.
Meineke or pep boys around here is definitely a...
If I had to compress it at home( which I will not do) I would probably look at rigging something up with my hydraulic wood splitter. I always figured that thing is going to kill me one way or another
I believe the strut assembly comes all together already. I'll double check. From some quick YouTube searches, looks like with the assembly purchased already done you don't need any compression or anything
OK thanks, I was looking at more leaking strut /shock pics online definitely matches up w mine looks like.
Money's tight right now so I'll likely do it myself.
Strut assembly is about $220 each at my local Napa.
Is there anything I should know or be looking for with difference in ride...
Yes I suppose if I even just wipe it down I can possibly pin point it better. It's definitely a leak though and not just residual.
Its picked up heavier over the past month, that droplet spot I pointed at drops each time I leave and park, there's probably 100 drops on the driveway from this...
It's hard to tell but the strut is all wet, almost like a wet grease layer, and then the coil has oil dripping off it where it all accumulates down. very slowly, but enough to leave drops daily in the driveway.
Either that or something is spraying it from elsewhere but it looks clean everywhere...
Thanks everyone.
Dealer does not waranty it and quoted $400+ per strut.
Here is a picture. Sorry if I use the wrong words here...

The whole strut assembly... The strut or main "tube" part inside the coil spring is soaked up as far as I can see. it goes in a...
OK so I located the AC condensation outlet and yes it's where I had asked, in front of the passenger side. The puddle is there as normal.
However a separate oil leak appears to be coming from a leaking strut in front of that AC puddle a foot or 2. Passenger front strut
Hopefully that's under...
Ill have to investigate better. I'm used to a condensation drops my whole life but not the staining.
I didn't see any other obvious oil leaks. Looks dry underneath other than the AC I think I saw. That AC condensation does drip in front of the passenger side?
I'm currently due for an oil...

I have a large number of what looks like brown oil drops stained in the driveway, New over the last month or so.
When I look under the truck all I'm seeing right now is (water?) dripping from under the hood, approximately right in front of the passenger side.
When...
