    2014 1500 Vararam on 6.4

When I did my swap I already had the Vararam and 5.7 intake. Buying the 6.4 manifold along with a new intake was going to be around $1,300. I opted to just have my 5.7 manifold ported for $300 to allow some more airflow and rolled with it. The HP per $ didn’t add up enough for me to personally...

    2012 Ram 1500 6.4L swap

Just to throw it out there, I have a 6.4 I may be willing to part with. It’s torn down now with the crank at the machine shop from a bearing issues in the #8 rod and very back main. Still working with the shop to see what the issue was. My son starts driving next year and wants the truck but...

    Cam/Lifters Update

If you do it by hand, just find a way to jam it from turning and it goes on pretty east

    Cam/Lifters Update

I’ve done it by hand and torqued to spec before and have also don’t the impact and called it good, never seen an issue with either. No Lube, raw dog it in there. Use the old one to push it in and seat it, then swap it out for your new one and torque it down.

    Dipstick Mounting

I honestly can’t remember on factory manifolds, but on my headers I fished the dipstick through them and bent it a little to mount to the front bolt like you are saying. As for the harness it is good to have a reference truck, but you really can’t mess anything up. Every wire should be working...

    update of 5.7 engine rebuild

If this were the case, the cam would be ruined also. @CrasherAsher I’m assuming the top end is all good? Also I’m curious how much you really got on it once you got behind the wheel. No judgment, I’ve seen people beat the brakes off a new engine and say “this is the way”. But I’m just curious...

    update of 5.7 engine rebuild

Yes we should avoid excessive idling, but during a break in the ring seat process needs different ranges of RPM. Not sitting for 5-10 minutes at idle. As far as the drive by wire…..all 3 times I have had zero issue with holding rpm between 2000-2500. It’s literally just a few minutes that you...

    update of 5.7 engine rebuild

I’m not sure if you could call oil pump being the issue because the sump tube was full of debris and the debris made it to the top of the engine and into the vvt solenoid. Another thing that baffles me is the fact they rebuilt the engine and just let it idle. That’s a red flag because a fresh...

    update of 5.7 engine rebuild

Now I will say it is possible for something I’m the top end to fail and send metal particles down into the oil then pumped back into the crank, eventually getting in between the journal and rod bearing, but you would very easily see the broken part to cause that in the top end. When I...

    update of 5.7 engine rebuild

Ok you said they did a full rebuild from top to bottom, so new rings, main bearings, rod bearings, honed the piston bores, and then everything involved in the cam swap? Reason I’m curious here is because nothing involved in a cam swap would cause multiple rod bearings to be destroyed. 98% of...

Ram 5.7 can and lifter replacement

I’ve done multiple cam swaps with A/C installed and with it completely taken out. It’s soooo much nicer have it out of the way. My personal truck had the unicorn shizzle but after the cam swap I rented everything from Oreillys (their kit has the 1234-yf adapters) and dumped $20 worth of r-134a...

    Heads

Another way to tell is the bolt holes at the exhaust ports. 3 are in the same position and the 4th is the opposite. The one that is opposite goes to the back of the engine.

Engine cuts off when decelerating ??

What RPM is it at when it does? Although mine is a “high performance” build, it does this same thing if I let it set for a while and the fuel gets a little old. Mine does at very low RPMs when slowing down though, normally under 900.

New to the forum, about to tackle cam replacement job

If you are just moderate at mechanic abilities, you can do this job with no issues. I had never been inside an engine before and tackled it. I got with a tuner (I used Demon Motorsports) who sold me a kit and helped me along the way with everything I needed. I followed the write up in the link...
