    New to me truck

I’m not buying a ranch hand front bumper but a ranch hand style front bumper. Steelcraft makes one that is very similar but with a front tow hitch

I’m more after the front tow hitch that comes with those bumpers. And mounting for my emergency lights for fire.

    New to me truck

Funny, a logger I’ve worked with a handful of times since I’ve worked in forestry(not quite an actual forester position yet but hopefully soon) has a similar set of bad luck. Yet you put him in almost any rig or machine and he’s the most careful person you will see. Makes me wonder if he just...

    New to me truck

Mine has so far been treating me well here in the wonderful McCall region for the few weeks I’ve had it now. Also has pulled a few people out of the snow and back on the road recently lol.

The ranch hand bumpers I like just because it’s extra peace of mind for front end protection and that front tow hitch is really useful for getting trailers parked up nicely lol. We run them on all our wildland engines as well for a reason.

    New to me truck

Yep but hey, I’m just glad I’ve got something that’s newer and with less than 40k miles. First time I’ve ever bought a vehicle with less than a hundred thousand so I’m happy still. Also it’s nice having CarPlay and a 6’4 bed vs the 5’7 bed I used to have.

    New to me truck

Yeah, only issue is it’s got a phantom issue with the trailer brake controller and the passenger fog light doesn’t like to work so I’m taking it back down there in a week to get those two issues fixed. I made sure it wasn’t bulbs, tried checking the wiring to the plugs, couldn’t figure it out.

It did. First thing I removed when I got it home. Right along side installing hideaway strobes on all four sides of the truck and installing a strobe lights controllers and some vhf and cb radio stuff.

    New to me truck

So I had my 2010 1500 trx4 totaled about a year ago now, and have been just using an agency owned 2023 2500 til now since that’s the only place I really drive to, but finally bought another truck of my own. Picked up a 2019 ram classic bighorn (crew cab and 6’4 bed) with 35k miles, a hemi and...

What did you do with your 5th Gen this week?

Took one of our new engines (2022 ram 5500) out smoke chasing as part of a crew

    Possibly totaled my truck

Yeah that was a joint burn with IDL, and the forest service who I was working as a liaison with due to my employment with them. We had a contingency of twenty engines and burned a thousand piles on the Eagle Head fire burn scar. The wind made it sketchy but I knew we had engines staged nearby so...

Honestly miss it. Was a sold rig that lasted a long time, and got put through the wringer plenty.

    Possibly totaled my truck

Our county dept has three paid staff, the on duty Bat chief, and two administrators. I’m technically in charge of wildland fire response in the county because I’m qualified as a Division leader and task force leader through my work with the forest service, so that was a big reason I used my...

    Possibly totaled my truck

Yeah I get it but I wanted to get it all out there for anyone else asking questions. Volunteer county rural culture and methods are so vastly different from what I am used to in Wildland for the forest service. I still sometimes struggle to swap back and forth between forest service me and...
