OEM wheel not fitting spare tire hoist carrier on 2014 RAM 1500
Daw14, your idea is good way to remove the holding bracket but the way its designed it has a raised round dome designed to fit a 3" hole, so it looks like it wouldn't support the smaller wheel center hole properly. Its like will need to buy a holding support bracket designed for a 2 1/4" hole... -

Why does RAM install a steel spare wheel with 3" center hole and spare carrier bracket width at 2 3/4"? The OEM 20" wheels center hole measures 2 1/4" and will not allow the spare tire carrier fit through the hole. RAM doesn't want OEM wheels used as spares? I've read some say, ya just... -

Thanks pjram for your input. I looked initially into air bags, but what I got out of all the different posts I read, was that the air bags beside stiffen up the 1500 woos springs, place more weight on the rear axle, which could overload the rear axle. I will have to research this more I guess...- Geogee

Dhay13, so if your sons TT tongue weight was 1000lbs, that is 12% of TT weight, then the weight distribution bars transfer some of that weight to the front axle, so how much is left on the rear axle? what if too much is transferred and there is less than 10 %? I am trying to understand this.- Geogee

Thanks Ohio for the feedback, I mostly saw posters say the 1500 will struggle going uphill, that is why I was wondering if it’s better to increase the gear ratio with smaller tires.
