MAF... no. But a MAP sensor can be a great help!! For instance, on my old evo the stock MAP sensor was something like 2bar.. but when i slapped on a big snail, and had everything set up to run 45Psi i needed more MAP sensor, because it would max out. so you can only adjust fueling/timing etc...- LeesEvoX

as you said, the risk of airing down tires is popping the bead. But if just driving on snow or sand, you shouldnt be too worried about that. its more of rock crawling where the tire gets pinched. the other thing you have to be careful of is the weight of the truck. Water pumps for 5.7, when did yours fail, and what brand did you use?
The water pump on my 2012 went out at basically 150k on the nose. and it happened right after a big road trip. We drove from Houston to Denver and back.. no issues whatsoever. The power an engine makes has nothing to do with how much the vehicle weighs, or how much rolling resistance the vehicle has. All of the manufacturers base their HP ratings at the crank.
