Why not back it up with a TH400 and let that ***** go!

Because the whole purpose behind this truck was to show that you can build a fast and reliable daily driver without having to go crazy.

What's your point? I wouldn't put much merit on it until it's tested. The 4L60E is a derivative of the 700R4, the 4L80E and the 6L80E share a lot with a TH400, two proven transmissions. I'm not sure where this 8 speed is coming from, but it'll have to prove itself.

People these days are going way too ******* overboard with how many gears they can stuff in an auto trans anyway. Every time you shift it takes time. My fastest 1/4 burner ever ran a 'glide... One shift.

TH400 with a Gear Vendors overdrive. Run 4.56's out back, tear up the 1/4, then on your way home flip the switch and it's like you're running a 2.55 rear gear. Best of both worlds.

I was pointing out a similar thread on a primarily GM forum that mirrors some of the discussion in here, whether GM or Chrysler there are challenges. Plenty of 6L80 guys both happy and unhappy with its performance.

Sorry, I didn't read the thread. I'm over the idea of trying to race with overdrive transmissions. I'll have a 'glide, TH350, or TH400 in my build that I'm working on

Matt, the truck ran a great time for its 1st time out. Alot faster than back when the 03-04 trucks 1st came out & we really thought we were doing something by running a 13.99. I think it is awesome that you have picked up an 8 speed truck & modding it for the shop.

The people that arent happy w/ a truck that just got put together & ran mid 12's on it's 1st pass should go digging around on DTW & see what we had to do yrs ago to get the 3rd gen trucks in the low-mid 13's

Thanks Gary. I'm excited to keep working on this truck and finding the weak links and areas we need to improve on to make them faster.

I believe there is substantial merit to that opinion and if I was only a street/strip guy I would 100% agree with you on that point. I'd go TH400 all day and use a gear vendors, like you mentioned, if I really wanted a cruising gear! Why, I've blown up a very heavy hitting 4L80 with 300M input and intermediate shafts among other high $$ parts.

For a DD, I REALLY like our ZF 8spds, and trust me, I thought I wouldn't like it, thought 6spds were enough(and in many ways they are), but IMO these trannys are damn good.

The Vararam is the best performing intake you can buy over the counter, but all the record setting trucks use a home made intake for the track only. It is basically just 4" tubing that runs from the throttle body to a larger air scoop behind the grille with no air filter. Here is what mine looks like on our 2011 Ram...

No problem. It works great at the track, but does require you to relocate the coolant overflow bottle and is not the most ideal for street use.

Makes me worried about taking mine down the track. I won't trap 108 but even people chunking them at 104 on slicks worries me.

I sent what was left of my driveshaft, as well as the front/rear flanges, off to the The Driveshaft Shop today, and will be taking measurements for them tomorrow of the new stock driveshaft that I put back on.

I'm hoping they can come up with an affordable fix for us. I will be testing it as soon as they can get 1 down here, and will just bring the stock one as backup. I will also install loops both front and rear before I race again.

Looking forward to the update. Couple of things to look at is the balance of the stock DS but also the critical speed based on it being a rather long piece.

I think once you get those nailed down you won't really need the hoops for a DD application but still will be cool as hell.

Can a 1 piece shaft be made to go in it's place?

If you can come up with an affordable bolt-in driveshaft loop for the 4th gen crowd, I am sure it will be a hit. Where did driveshaft give? Front or back?

In the middle, right at the joint. Both front and rear flanges were still bolted to the transmission and axle.
