Bought a new 2017 2500 cummins a few weeks ago and the dealer had inflated the tires to 80-85psi cold with nitrogen. When driving on the highway they would heat up to 90psi. This being my first HD RAM truck I didn't think much of it until I went over a local pass at 6500 feet elevation and shortly after the TPMS light went off. I flipped the screen over to the tire pressures and they were at 81-82-83-84 front to rear. I couldn't think of a reason the TPMS light was chiming. That got me thinking of what the proper pressure should actually be. When I got home I checked the door and saw 60/80 so I set it at 60/70 and no light or chimes but only drove it a short distance after the change. This isn't my daily driver so maybe it will come on later?...

Well anyways... After doing some research I ended up here. The tires are what came with the truck, Firestone Transforce HT. What is ideal for these tires? Right now I only pull a 12k dump but I don't load it to the max either.

I have heard of others saying that high pressure has made their warnings go off too so that's likely what happened. Be sure to read post #1 in this thread for tons of updated info. You'll find that the lights and warnings for you Cummins truck will come on at 52 front & 64 rear. I don't have that size tire but I'm guessing 50 front & 45 rear when empty would yield a much better ride and tire life. I'd certainly use a minimum of 75 in the rear when towing. Of course, all the lights and warnings will come at those settings but that's a way to fix that ;)

If anyone needs this done I'll be driving from Arizona to D.C. next week along the Interstate 40 corridor. I'd be happy to meet up with anyone along the way and reset the TPMS. Drop me a PM and we can set something up...

Will this work on a 2015 1500?

I got R/T wheels with TPMS monitors, and swapped them onto My 2015 Express. TPMS now no worky....

Sounds like you need a TPMS relearn, but I'm not a mechanic. The Autel can probably do it, but I'm not sure. I rent it out mostly to guys with HD trucks so they can lower the factory settings from 65/80 if they have large tires or don't tow/haul anything.

Although I've not had anyone try, it should work on a 1500 but it sounds like the TPMS sensors may not be compatible. If they're not then you're SOL. If they are then a relearn would likely fix the issue.

I thought surely from a 2015 to another 2015, they would work. Guess not.

Haven't seen this mentioned before, but I think I may have stumbled on slight work around for those of us who don't have access to the correct tuner to lower the threshold. This will not turn off the orange TPMS light, it does seem however to keep your EVIC from changing to the tire pressure screen. It should be noted I have a 16 2500 Tradesman with the base display.

Simply set your parking brake before turning off the ignition. When you start your truck back up give it about 10 seconds. It will notify you on the EVIC that your parking brake is engaged. Wait until it dings once and the display goes away. Bam! When you put the truck in drive it's stays on the same screen as before (fuel economy for me).

Now, I guess it just depends on which is cheaper to replace in the long run: your steering wheel buttons or your parking brake ;)

I've only done this 3 times after accidentally discovering it while parked on a hill this morning. Hope it works for everyone. I don't mind the orange light, it's constantly changing the screen that grinds my gears.

Send me a PM. I have a program to allow you to do it yourself in your own driveway. Might be a bit though...

I have a 2017 2500 4wd--was able to change the tire pressures on the truck with the matco scanner but it wouldn't reset the RFH because it wasnt updated to 2017 software yet--I then used the witech scanner to reset the RFH and everything is working great. Had my truck been a 2016 the matco scanner would have done everything.

So, pardon My ignorance, but a Matco scanner can change the RFH and get TPMS monitors working? Help Me out here... :)

it's been 6 weeks now and the light has not come back! And din't cost me a dime to fix it. Already had a bullydog tuner for my truck to add the horsepower tunes.

The bully Dog tuner has the option to change your tire pressure settings to whatever you want. So I set them to 65psi. Error did not go away initially but after I unhooked both batteries for 12 to 14 hours to do another upgrade I hooked everything back up and have never had the error come up again!

The Bully Dog lets you set both the low and high range for your tire pressures. It immediately shows on the evic " air tire sup to 65 psi" but does not actually clear the error until I left the both batteries unhooked overnight. Unhooking them for just an hour did not clear it

Has your tire psi ever gone below 65, especially your rears? If not, you've not gone under the 20% thresholds which are 52 front & 64 rear. I could certainly be wrong but I don't think you've changed the RFH. Drop your rears down to 60 and report back what happens.

Just got a used set of wheel 2 wheel steps installed at a local truck accessory shop here in Piedmont, SC / Greenville area and attempted to share this information with the owner.

He didn't believe me that this could be done with the Autel Maxisys tool and wouldn't even take a look at the information from the op because he ...
"went to Sema 2 months ago and if it could be done they would have had it there." (SEMA was in November btw)
What a shame because he even mentioned that several of the dealers in the area (5) had called to see if they could reset the hi/low pressure settings.

Who knows, maybe he will come take a look eventually.

That's sad. Talking to some people is like :banghead:.
