So, I'm waiting for America's Tire to get in the Cooper ST Max tires in 295 70-18 i put down the deposit on. They should be in tomorrow and hopefully installed Saturday.

Question: would you purchase the tire "warranty" for $38 per tire? Hate to spend the extra coin as i don't recall any other time i bought tires that i would have taken advantage of the warranty had it been offered. Below is a screen shot of the warranty. Basically covers any damage to the tire for three years or down to 3/32 tread remaining. What would you do?

I had a set of the cooper ltz (I think they have a new name now) but they started to get small cracks along the bead they may very well have led to bead separation but discount tire replaced them at no charge for mount or balance as well. No hassle or questions. If you haul or tow a lot it may be a good idea to get it.

If you off-road or tow regularly I would, otherwise pass on it. I have 25K on my S/T Maxx's and no issues.

I have a few times in the past and it worked out one time to get me 4 brand new tires, had a nail in the side wall and they had stopped making that tire so they put 4 brand new ones on because they could not match the other 3.

Then a few years back I bought a set or Yokohama Geolanders and a week after I bought them I got a big ass nail in the side wall, had to buy a new tire.

Its a tough call.

I've been driving for 12 years, now, and I've only had one nail and it was $25 to repair it.

I have always bought the warranty from Discount Tire. If you have one tire replaced, it pays for itself. Cheap insurance if you ask me...

I had Nitto Terra Grapplers which were about $250 each. I hit some needle nose pliers on the freeway, and it took out one of my tires. Discount replaced it with no worries.

I would only get a tire warranty if I did serious off roading.

In 35 years of driving I've never bought a tire warranty. There was only One instance where I would have used a warranty. I'm not saying you won't need it, but the chances are that you won't.

Having said that, I buy most of my tires from Les Schuab Tires. They include a warranty in the purchase price, and have always met any advertised internet price from Tire Rack or Discount Tire.

In the area that I live the tire warranty has paid for itself many times over. On my 2015 van I know I've replaced three tires because of junk in the road that they picked up, all covered by the tire warranty. Plus, that doesn't include the few times I've had tires plugged.

Bought a set of 4 Michelin LXT's from Belle Tire last year. Belle Tire give you a pro-rated warranty on the tires as part of the purchase. I believe Discount Tire does the same.

At about 1000 miles I found a large screw in the sidewall of one of them. Said - Oh Crap - I probably should have purchased the total replacement warranty.

Took the truck to Belle and they replaced the tire for $15. I said why $15? The manager said that was the cost of mounting and rebalancing. Because the tire had essentially no miles the pro-rated warranty replace it for only the remounting cost,

Bottom line. The replacement warranty would cost me about the price of a new tire whereas the free pro-rated warranty was free. REalistically, if the tire is half worn and it is damaged, I don't want a new one anyway with the three worn ones so I won't buy the replacement warranty. If it's half worn and I do want a new tire it would cost me half of the new price with the free warranty.

Crap, you guys are funny. Seems about 50/50 on to buy or not. I think I will go ahead and buy it. Looking back on it now i do know that with my company work trucks i have driven over the last 14 years and 500K miles i have had to have the company pay for probably 3-4 tires because i got nails or screws in the outer edge of the tread where they wont patch and will only replace the tires. Of course i never had to pay for those. And never happened to my personal vehicles. Thanks for the input.

I say do it....recently got a mail in my tire, and I had to buy a new tire.

It comes with free balance on the tires for the 3 years...so might as well use it.

All of these warranties are so that they make extra money. They don't offer them because you are getting the better deal.

If you cannot afford any "accidental" damage to your tires when it crops up then you likely cannot afford to drive a car.

i would never buy a road hazard warranty for tires, esp for 1/2 the price of the tire.

You pay 15% more for the tire to warranty it. These companies know what their warranty rate is and they set the price accordingly so that they statistically make money on them.

Only you can at the end of the day determine if the extra expense is worth it to you.

I got a warranty on my coopers for 5 years and it only cost me $56.00 total for all 4 tires from my local Canadian tire store.

I have never bought any kind of warranty with a new vehicle, for the tires, the windows or the paint and fabric....gets just ridiculous

Kmart always asked if I wanted to a warranty on a $15 coffee pot of a $25 blender...good grief

I figure that I have saved enough by NOT buying them to pay cash for my 2017 Ram...which I actually did.....

I can't remember the last time I had a tire go bad that could not be plugged or patched...of course, I don't go four wheeling or bounce my tires off of curbs...
