Hey guys just had a quick question regarding the lower ball joints on these trucks as I am going to start ordering parts to replace all the ball joints and tie rod ends on my truck. Looks like the PO was rough when pulling the front end apart for the lift. Can a guy buy lower ball joints and press them out or are they a replace the lower control deal like GM? Thanks in advance.

nope. You need to have just a good hydraulic press to take the old one off. the replace with a new one.

Sweet! What's the part number on the lower ball joints?

My uppers are shot, or close to it with the boots being torn. Lowers are damn close to being torn.

Definitely not a DIY job unless you have a shop press.

you can rent a ball joint press at pretty much any of the big chain auto parts stores..

Tried using a traditional press not happening with factory ones. Need a hydraulic press like a shop has and I certainly don't. Might be easier to just swap the arms like the dealer does but I am stubborn so trying to put in Moog upper and lower if I can. Otherwise I'll be hitting up 1aauto for some upper arms.

I would just replace the control arms, I found that was cheaper and less in wrench time fees.

Lowers are press fit, the uppers are non serviceable, but there is no camber adjustment for the upper control arms so it’s literally a simple swap. i just did my upper control arms and with the spindle being forged aluminum and the ball joint being steel, as I loosened up the ball joint it literally slid out with no hammering the get the ball joint out. i spent more time getting tools and setting the truck on jack stands then it did swapping out the control arms.

Just had mine done he used the air impact and a traditional ball joint press. He said he had sprayed them with pb blaster a couple days too. I wanted to keep my aluminum original LCAs so I put Moogs in them. I also replaced the uppers but did so with new upper arms from moog.

In the picture it doesn’t look like the snap ring was able, to be installed.

Having been nearly 4 years ago, I'm sure this is very useful information.
