I've got a buddy who has a 14 2500 6.7 160,000 miles that i just dpf deleted with an H&S Tuner A month ago. He says now everytime he goes to pass someone or gives it heavy throttle it throws the check engine light. I checked the codes and it gives me p0729, p0716, and p0735. All transmission codes. He "says" there really isnt any change in the feel of the truck. No noticable slipping that he can feel.

The only thing I can gather is either his overdrive clutches are on their way out or his stock converter can't handle the extra power, slips and causes it to unlock?? I don't know much about these transmissions so i figured I'd ask you guys. He wants to know what he needs so he can get it fixed.

First question would be how is he running that mini MAXX on a 2014. If he has a 2014, then that h&s can't unlock the ecm or run delete programming on it

I was thinking the same.

When he accelerates in 5th and 6th, can he look at the minimaxx and see if the torque converter is unlocking (it'll tell him what gear he's in, and if tc is locked). But, yes, sounds like burnt od clutch packs.

I'm sorry it's a 12. I don't know why I said 14. He's going to bring it to me today and I'll check all that out.

Thanks for the replies

84k miles
While recently towing my 5k lb travel trailer on the interstate in Tow/Haul mode, I've noticed a bump when it would downshift on a medium grade from 7th to 6th gear. This past wknd, it bumped pretty hard downshifting into 6th and went into safe mode and threw a

P0729: Gear 6 Incorrect Ratio DTC Trouble Code

I had the Chrysler dealership run a scan on it and this is the code they found.

We were stranded 130 miles from home and Good Sam would only take me 50 miles and then $500 more to get me home. No deal! I tested the vehicle and it seemed to be functioning in normal mode. I put the truck in Tow/Haul mode and in 5th gear and drove the TT home keeping it around 2500 rpm. It did fine w no bumping or issues and tranny temperature was good, never over 195°.

I've read the possible reasons for this problem can be:
  • INPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR FAILURE
  • OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR FAILURE
  • LINEAR SOLENOID 2 CIRCUIT HIGH / RESISTANCE / MECHANICAL ERROR
  • LINEAR SOLENOID 4 CIRCUIT LOW / RESISTANCE / MECHANICAL ERROR
  • LINEAR SOLENOID 7 CIRCUIT HIGH / RESISTANCE / MECHANICAL ERROR
  • SHIFT SOLENOID 1 CONTROL CIRCUIT LOW / CIRCUIT OPEN / FAILURES
  • VALVE BODY INTERNAL FAILURE
  • INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM
  • TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM)
  • also..
    • Not enough transmission fluid
    • Dirty transmission fluid / filter
    • Damaged wiring/connector
    • Malfunctioning transmission pump
    • Failing torque convertor clutch
    • Bad solenoid
    • Problems with fluid pressure
    • Valve body issue
    • TCM failure

    • I called Aamco and the guy says it's most likely internal instead of an external sensor issue. They want me to bring it in next Wednesday.
  • Question: Any ideas on what you guys would try before I'm at the mercy of an expensive tranny shop?
  • I'm willing to change sensors, change tranny fluid n filters and even replace the solenoid pack or do you think it's something more invasive? Thanks for any help!

Update: Aamco says the code points to aa rebuild. Thing is, no one has a rebuild kit for the newer 8 speeds, not even the dealership. They say it will take a month to get a new tranny..$6,400 install price at Aamco. Taking it to another specialist Monday. Any input would help..
