So I ordered a new leather seat cover from the seat shop.

I watched their youtube video... looked super straight forward, except I have ventilated seats so couldn't actually fully remove the bottom cushion to do the job.

Hog ties are a PITA btw. Anyway it is a little baggie. The clips for the side are to long so they don't click in properly. Anyone else do this and have a problem? Its driving me nuts.. at this point I wish I just kept the rip in the leather on the side.

Dave.....first thing is you need to determine which seat you have. There are 2 types of bucket seats. The higher end buckets are usually called LARAMIE seats by everyone. One easy distinction to see about these seats is the wider seatback they have over the other standard bucket seat. I have pasted below pictures of the 2 seats. The first pic below is the "laramie" bucket and the second is the "standard" bucket. Now why am I bringing this all up? The seat covers for these seats are different. Not only the backrest portion but also the seat bottom cover is different. In fact the very difference in seat bottom cover is the location of the "J-clips" on the covers and how they attach to the frame. The wrong seat cover will cause the very problem you complain about. So you need to find out which seat bottom cover you got from them and if it is the correct one.

Next is the heat / cooled part. You can easily remove the bottom cushion. I gather you did not detach the cooling fan. It is easy to do. the bottom area of the seat has a fan to which the white bellows connects to by a black snap ring. You simply pry apart. I pasted a photo below with a screw driver that is right where you pry them apart.

Hope this helps. Need help let me know............

Thank you very much. This will be the 3rd time I have to take the seat off. Last time I got the new cushion on and then realized they sowed the wrong color on the sides.
Now the clips don't actually connect on the side because they are to long.

I contacted the shop and they asked for some pictures.

Thank you for the cooling detaching instructions. Much appreciated.

On the hog rings. Are these 100% needed?

I probably should have mentioned it was for the bottom only though, are those cushions different in size too? Because only the top looks wider.

Thx again for the help!

Dave....the big difference for the bottom seat covers is where the j-clips are located on the seat cover material. Then there is a difference in where on the frame the j-clip attaches. It is not so much the cushion itself but how and where the j-clips go. As to the hog rings-yes you absolutely need them. On the bottom cushion there are a total of 13. Three across the seam towards the front and 5 on each side. Instead of using hog rings I prefer and actually use electrical wire ties which allow you to better control how tight you get them. I pasted below an amazon listing for them so you know what I am referring to:

Perfect, thats exactly what I need. I think the hog ties might have been to tight and prevented me from pulling the back and sides as tight as needed to be.

Will still need to upload photos for the vendor. Sux, this is the 3rd time I'm taking apart the seat.

Appreciate all the help.

For an update, I called and they sent the longer version not the short version. Super annoyed since this will be the 3rd one they ship out to me. But really glad I posted on here to you guys because now that I know how to remove the actual air vent connection it shouldn't take me that long at all.

Thanks again for all the help!

I will, but at this point, and having had to do it 3 different times... if I were to do it again i would just take the seat cover off... bring it to an upholstery shop, and have them replace the piece that is messed up for like $50..

That being said, the place I ordered mine from didn't ask for the original one back. If you have the 2 seats up front and dark grey slate and need a driver seat cover :) maybe we can work something out...
