So I've got just under 40K miles on my 2016 1500 Big Horn 4x4 and it looks like the OEM brakes (front and rear) need to be replaced. I priced out some Mopar replacements to the tune of $600. Any other recommendations? I don't really tow or haul anything, so I don't need any type of "performance" pads and rotors.

I replaced my brakes with ceramic from prime choice.com .
I’ve been happy with them so far and at really reasonable prices.

Really surprised that the rear would need to be changed already too. Typically the front brakes wear at twice (if not more) the rate of the rear brakes.

$600 to replace pads seems really expensive to me.

Changes are the rears may be fine, but if I'm gonna do the fronts, I might as well do it all around. Yeah $600 is up there for sure.

40K seems really quick to me if you're not doing any towing. While you don't "need" performance brakes, I wouldn't rule them out if the price is right and they're not quick wearing, super performance.... Can never hurt to have more braking power and it only takes one time to wish you had it. That said. Ceramic brakes tend to have the lowest brake dust, which means your wheels stay cleaner longer. A lot of street performance brakes use a mix between metallic and ceramic. I've used powerstop z23 performance brakes and they work great for daily driving. I've also used EBC and they're phenomenal and give a ton of options with ratings for stopping power, dust, noise, and wear. $600 sounds steep unless you're paying to have it done with Mopar pads. Mopar pads are likely overpriced if I had to guess. Checkout carid.com and look at ebc pads and find a pair that suites your needs based on the graph of the mentioned characterstics that they provide.

Reminds me of the time I was at a 5 star Dodge dealer in 2008 or so to have my 300c serviced and they told me they charge $1,800 for an srt8 brake change. I nearly pooped myself.

Check out 1aauto.com for brakes. I've bought a couple sets. 1 for my 2009 Ram front brakes and front and rear for my 2005 Durango. They work great, last and rotors are zinc coated. Just a satisfied custimer here.

Just ordered a set of Power Stop Z36 front and rears (pads, rotors & hardware) for my '14. Best price, including shipping, that I found was at AutoAnything.com. $359.99.

i only got about 46,000 miles(75,000kms) out of my rears with light towing and so far 58,000(92,000) and counting on my fronts. I'm an mechanic and i service my breaks twice a year. most newer cars/trucks are from what i have been seeing are wearing out the rears as fast if not faster then the fronts. makers have down sized breaks too the smallest size legally allowed. i won't comment on the hole pad a rotor topic as i find it really gets heated. find want pads u like or look up loads of reviews on others and pick what u like/can afford and you'll be happy. what really helps breaks last is proper breaking technics and servicing. servicing your breaks can make them last almost twice as long as most other people that don't.

I am curious how you would "service" your brakes other than replacing them?

I had my brakes done about 4k miles ago (I drive about 1.6k miles per month) at about 40k miles. I got my truck CPO 8 months ago at 29k miles. I needed new tires and full brakes, and since it was winter up here, I didn't do it myself.

I went to firestone, got tires (warranty, lifetime rotation & balance), brakes, brake flush, and lifetime alignment.

I drive 20k+ per year.

Firestone is a good option if you want to drop it off and add a lifetime alignment.

That’s where you take your brakes apart and clean up your calliper slides and lubricate all moving parts

And apply new quiet to the back of the pads. It really helps.

I put a PowerStop Z36 set on mine last year. I've got probably 8,000 miles on them so far and they've been great. I've put PowerStops on 2 other family cars now as well and they're doing well too. All bought from rockauto. Search around and you can usually find 5-10% of coupons.

I like to buy from RockAuto, but I went with AutoAnything this time as while the price was the same between the two, AA was free shipping and RA was an additional $50 shipping.

Thanks for all of the input everyone. I ended up going with dealer parts (rotors, pads, e-brake shoes, hardware, etc.) for $495 (My buddy and I will install). Not cheap, but better than the dealer quote of $1,300 (parts and labor w/o tax).

Mopar has two lines of brake brands. Mopar OE and the mopar value line (mostly China stuff). I bought rotors and pads front and rear in the mopar OE for around $600. I haven`t had much luck with the aftermarket rotors. They all seem to warp over time. i didn`t replace the park brake pads. they were like $100 just for them in mopar.
