Are you guys running aftermarket exhausts with MDS still active?

I had a magnaflow cat back on my 2012 Sierra with the MDS, when it switched over to MDS mode, it would sound like a Honda Civic.

Curious, I want an exhaust for my truck but haven’t pulled the trigger yet cause of the MDS.

The MDS is switching to 4 cylinders so no matter what you do its going to sound weird. my setup makes my 6.4 sound like an old diesel.

There are a ton of options. We can help you pick the best one for you. Let me know if we can be of assistance. We offer discounts for the members here too. Also we are running a sale on a few of the big name brands this month!

I have an aftermarket exhaust and my MDS is still active....I just hit my gear down button to disable it (I put it on 8). Sounds much better this way. Maybe one day I'll get a tune and disable it that way. But for now, I will have to live with just using the gear button.

Yup I do the exact same thing. That switch to 4 cyl mode really makes the flowmaster sound like crap, much better with it disabled, so much smoother!

When i first bought my truck i left everything alone and HATED the sound of MDS as well as the feel! Found out how to turn it off and never looked back. I have experimented with it on and off a few times with gear +/- buttons on long drives and to me it doesnt help mileage.
I have a magnaflow 18 with 5" tips and mds makes it sound like a import needing a valve job!! Lol
I leave it off and get 17-18 on freeway depending on the strength of my right foot

After putting on a mufflex 18" muffler the sound it made when MDS kicked on was terrible. I can't understand how anyone would drive with it on. As others mentioned you can do the gear switch or hit the haul/tow button and I did that for a while but bought a tuner to totally get rid of the MDS. Also for the other options the tuner offered. Gas mileage wasn't affected enough to make it worth having the MDS.

I turned MDS off on my 2014 6.4L 2500. The drone with the Magnaflow on it and the resonator removed was terrible.

I have the Flowmaster HD50 & it doesn't bother me when it is activated. Sounds like a semi's exhaust brake.

I’ve got the mufflex 18” and I don’t mess with my mds. I don’t even hear it when it kicks in. I imagine with a louder exhaust it would be annoying, but the 18” is rather tame, so it’s not really noticeable to me.
