Can anyone tell me why Mopar added this extra filter to the lid of the air box? When the air box is closed it sits right above the main air filter. I’m guessing there is less than 1/2” clearance between the two. As you can see in the pic it’s riveted to the air box lid.

Seems like an extra restriction to me. 70eeb67a248c7be4c3bd59e0061296f5.jpg

Well that's interesting. If it's riveted, what do they expect owners to do when it gets dirty? Replace the lid? In for answer.

Yes. Very odd.

It looks more like a protective screen than a filter. If the main filter is doing its job, the protective screen isn't going to get dirty. I would guess you can vacuum the dust off of it anyway.

I feel like Mopar is playing by NASCAR rules with me. It’s there version of a “restrictor plate”. They wanna slow me down on the I294 speedway. LoL

I noticed that on my 18 Hemi. I figured it was just an extra layer of filtration but I wasn’t sure why. I don’t have to worry about it no more because I put the Mopar CAI kit on.

I still wonder what it does to air flow. It’s got to make some kind of difference. [emoji848]

It also appears that there is an area where the 'added filter ' doesn't cover? Correct?

I would say that engineers don't put something in for no reason.

Also, the accountants wouldn't approve the cost if it doesn't do anything.

Also, it adds time/cost to the assembly process.

So, I'm guessing it does something.

It's the new and improved expensive "upper filter" you get to replace. I told them we should put a sensor in with it that ***** out at 20k and throws 10 codes that have nothing to do with the filter. But noooooo, the board said it's too early, maybe 2021 or later models. Gotta ease people into or they'll get caught, they said. Anyway, you shouldn't be asking these questions (wink wink) and I was never here.
