I’ve tracked every mile on my truck since new and have averaged 17.5 mpg.

It's my assumption that most tunes are aimed at increasing performance. Performance is very likely to have an inverse relationship with fuel economy. That is, as performance is increased or improved, fuel economy is decreased or lessened.

Not always true. My old 5.9 Cummins with the 200hp tune got 2-3mpg better than stock!

Going across PA through the mountains I get 19-20 @ 74 mph which is 2 mpg better than the flats of I 95 from NC to FL.

Best mpg to date, is 24.5 mpg @ 70 mph in a flat valley, high (7000-8000 ft) elevation in Colorado this past march. No wind that I could tell or elevation drop.
Low mpg to date is under 13 @ 74 mph in Kansas this past March - Fairly severe wind coming at an angle to the front of the truck.

I run mid grade gas, it’s stock tires and 4wd. Funny some people don’t believe me. I drive for a living so I go the speed limit every where I go. If the speed limit is 70 I go 70 not 75. There’s no need to fly around everywhere you go. Keep the left door shut and the truck moving forward and you can get where your going safely and in a timely fashion. I averaged 25 over the course of a 560 mile one way trip. Coming home I got 24mpg. I was surprised at the mileage but i know I’m not the only one getting over 20mpg on the highway.

And yes my truck is a hemi, it is stock, and I only have 4600 miles on it.

Just because some people seem to think it’s impossible and no that’s not all I went by, I hand jammed it to.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the hemi actually got better mileage than the 6 cylinder. I had a 4.8 Silverado that got worse mileage than the 5.3. This new technology really helps these engines with fuel economy. The 8 speed transmission is awesome and does its job well. One of you guys are really funny saying check to make sure it’s a hemi.

since tuning my 2011 with an I3, i get around 15 in town and up to 17 on the freeway with MDS turned off. before it was more like 13 in town and 19 on freeway with stock tuning.

I think MDS was killing my around town mileage by constantly turning on and off requiring more pedal input. While the freeway cruising was mostly with MDS activated and using only 1/2 the available cylinders.

I thought mine was impressive. But mine is a 3.6 regular cab, long bed, 2wd, with 3.55 gears.

So you are saying the HF tune decreased your mpg? I feel the same way with my custom Hf 92 tune. I am returning my truck back to stock on this next trip towing to see if I can get a little better mpg. Will definitely put the tune back on for daily driving though. Truck drives so much better when tuned.

For sure. Was no surprise. Everything I've done to add fun factor has hurt MPG. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

And just FYI, filled up today on a tank that was used for a lot of stop/go Portland traffic over the last few days, good hour or so of idling through the national cemetery on Monday, and a spirited drive across the coast range passing everyone I could safely. Calculated to 18.1 MPG.

I consider myself a conservative driver and have tracked mine from new as well and average the same as you, 17.5

The Fuelly app is great, you can also add the badge below that is always updated with current stats to your truck.

I thought I was the only person on Earth that drove the speed limit and never above it. I get told I'm slow driver, but I drive at the maximum speed by law.

Anyone with some ridiculously high MPG reading should just take a picture of their instrument cluster and post it here OVER A PERIOD OF TIME (not just 10 miles to work going down a hill the whole time). I flat out don't believe these claims.
18-20 in these trucks is about average (probably even lower is the norm).
Hemi V8.
