I own a 2015 3.0 Ecodiesel with 64,000 miles. What, or should I even use, for a fuel additive to keep the injectors clean? Some people have told me to add Automatic Transmission fluid to help lubricate and clean the injectors. I am not feeling good about doing that, although years ago, Transmission fluid was added to the crankcase to help clean out the sludge in the engine. Let me know what you use to keep the injectors clean.

My KW Cat motor gets a bottle of Power Service fuel treatment on occasion. 3/4 million miles and no major work yet..

I myself would recommend either Power Service (Silver Bottle).
Also Stanadyne (Performance).

Do not add ATF to your diesel fuel tank.
Back in the day before these serious emissions it was a common practice.
Not with today’s new diesels.

I add 8oz Stanadyne with every 15 gallon fill up or 12oz with every 25 gallon fill up.
I also add either 4oz Schaeffers SoyShield or 4oz Diesel Treat 2000.

In my sick/twisted mind: Adding either of these 2 (At the recommended dose) is far better then adding nothing at all.

I would usually highly recommend the opti-lube or Archoil or Schaeffers (SoyShield/Diesesl Treat 2000) or Hot Shots Secret (EDT/Extreme Diesel) but most owners wouldn’t/won’t even think of spending a few extra $$ on these highly respected Additives.

But then in the same breath these are the same owners who won’t blink on eye @ spending over $100 a month or more on cigarettes or *****.

I try very hard never to recommend any one product. I only share the information of the product or products that I am currently using/running.

Every diesel owner has their favorites & personal opinions on diesel fuel additives.
Some have them as a high priority & some don’t!

I have almost ALL my diesel Fuel additives added within my Amazon Prime (Subscribe & Save) program. So when they arrive I know it’s time to add.

1. Stanadyne (Lubricity or Performance) 8oz
2. Schaeffers (Diesel Treat 2000 or SoyShield) 4-6oz

My long time favorite is Schaeffers Neutra: 24oz/30gal every 6th tank fill.

Hot Shots Secret: EDT & Extreme Diesel & Liqui-Moly (German Made) diesel additives are on my Radar!

I don’t have any nasty bad habits so I always have a little bit of extra $$ to spend on Diesel Fuel Additives. It’s rounded off to about $4.62 extra every fill up.
On an average I fuel the tank up once a month.

Good Luck in your Quest fyermn!

“One thing that I hope most try really hard to remember: there is no reason to ridicule an owner for using fuel additives”.
They are only doing what they think is best for their expensive investment.
Just because YOU do not use these additives does not mean the owners who DO are wrong.

New game plan as of last month & this week. Probably losing Amazon (Prime)!

:Plugged:

As of right now: Ebay will be my go to.

Summer months: 8oz FPPF Lubricity w/4oz Red Line 85Plus.
Winter months: 8oz FPPF Total Power w/4oz Red Line Diesel Catalyst.
12oz via every 15-30gal fill up. Average cost= $3.61 per 12oz.

Once every 6 months I will pour in 16oz of FPPF Diesel Fuel Injector Cleaner.

I was also supplied with 64oz FPPF
8+ Cetane Improver which I will use during towing adventures.

If by any means the $$ increases for FPPF products Or availability drops I will substitute:

Summer: Stanadyne Lubricity w/RL 85Plus
Winter: Stanadyne Performance w/RL Diesel Catalyst
Local: Tractor Supply stocks all the Stanadyne products at lower prices then I can find on the net.

The Stanadyne (8oz/16oz bottles) make great refill bottles from the larger 64oz (cheaper per oz).
As well as for the 32oz FPPF bottles/Red Line combo.

Since May I have actually cut back to adding 12oz every other fill up.
Though I never let the tank drop to much below the 1/2 mark before fueling. So there is always a decent amount of Additive within the tank itself at all times.

Still researching the addition of a 15-25 gallon external gravity fed fuel tank for the bed.
Would make things much more pleasant when the 5th wheel is bought & our camping adventures begin.

After this stash is used: I’m staying with FPPF & Red Line!
When Hot Shots Secret -EDT- or Extreme goes on sale I will stock up as well.
Schaeffers SoyShield & Diesel Treat will be added when discounts are given.

Boy how time flies and thinking changes!

Due to availability - I am now using and plan to stay with these 2 products!

6oz Schaeffers SoyShield (Every Fill up) & 16oz HSS Diesel Extreme every 3 months!

Winter time - I add 2oz per 15gal Schaeffers ArcticShield - Bought (6) 16oz bottles off of Amazon for $6 - Regular $18. Stocked for a couple years.

I did receive a FREE bottle from HSS of their New LX4 - Interesting product
