I wish my first post would be better than this, but....

I bought a 2018 CC Big Horn with 6.4 Hemi. 2 week and 660 miles later the engine threw a rod and it is toast. It has been at the dealership for 3 week waiting on parts. The last part they need might be here on Friday 6/20 (a month after it broke). The only thing Chrysler has offered to do is try to expedite the shipping. I bought a $45-$50,000 truck because I need one and I got a caravan as a loaner.

I know these things happen to all brands and all vehicle. Am I expecting to much from Chrysler? Is it OK that I paid $730 this month on a truck I can't drive?

not the rule, just an exception. sorry for your luck, but ive owned 2 6.4 trucks now. one tuned one stock. combined 65,000 miles and not a single issue at all. it happens to all brands, just a few bad apples.

What state and what is the Lemon Law? Make them offer to pay the truck payment, and to compensate you for lost time.

My 2014 6.4L powered truck went into the dealer's shop with a problem that proved to be undersized piston wrist pins. The remedy was a replacement engine.

My truck was in the shop for 29 days in total. The dealer provided a loaner (Jeep Cherokee) and, without me asking for anything, swapped out the sport mirror package for a pair of tow mirrors with defrost, power tilt/pan & power fold.

I live in Oregon and the lemon law here applies to recurring or multiple failures vs. a single failure.

It won't hurt to go see the general manager about your situation and see what they can do. I would go in with a short list in mind and see which one they bite on. If they offer nothing, escalate the issue to Ram Customer Service.

No that’s how it’s done! Thankfully I’ve never had this issue

My wife’s brand new Hyundai had the same thing happen a few years ago. At about 500 miles the there was metal in the oil pan and the engine was blown.

They tried to do an engine swap, but I said no chance. If you try to sell the vehicle in the future and have to disclose it had an engine swap done at the dealership it will definitely devalue your vehicle.

I argued with them until they agreed to just give us a new vehicle.

It’s unacceptable in my opinion for them to be swapping engines on a brand new vehicle.

What was the root cause of the engine failure?

In my case it was unavoidable. It had to be done and I wanted the truck I had vs. getting another one.

The option package was a great mix and it fit me to a "T". I gave asking for a new truck a moment's consideration, then moved on.

I wasn't worried about devaluation due to the engine swap as the problem was well documented, it meant the engine was almost 2K miles newer than the truck and I tend to keep my trucks for long periods, i.e., 8 to 10 years so by then, any devaluation was a moot point.

years ago, after the third time my truck was in for warranty work, they tried to give me a dart as a loaner, I SAID NO DICE I have to have a truck.
The only thing enterprise had as far as a truck was a fully loaded F250 extra cab 4x4.
That's what I got, the fact that I said I would go the highest I could because you guys couldn't fix problem might have helped.
The problem I had was in the Cruise Control.

Let's say it did not blow. Would you buy his truck as "new" knowing it was driven for two week and had 600+ miles already on it? Probably not. At some point the warranty comes into play and that is when you drive it off the lot. Whether it is 600 miles or 30K miles into the warranty, that is what it is for. I would be livid and would also try to swing a new vehicle myself, but I or the OP is not entitled to one even though it failed early in the ownership experience.

Try first to resolve it with the GM. Call and nicely request a sit down meeting with him and go prepared. Don’t argue and be nice.

If that doesn’t work then go to Facebook,Twitter, and other online methods. If that doesn’t work then get a lawyer. Sometimes it’s the only option.

Sorry to hear this op. I also keep vehicles a long time so depreciation isn't a concern. I would expect a decent loaner though. I agree, check your lemon laws.

All they HAVE to do is what the manual states in the warranty section and follow lemon laws in your state. You can Twitter and Yelp all you want but that doesn't change anything. Sometimes **** just happens. We can all just lawyer up but what does that really solve?

Sorry for Your luck OP. I hope they get this resolved quickly for you. I would not expect them to give you a brand new truck, however making payments on a brand new truck you can't drive is unacceptable. They should at minimum be covering your payment on such a new truck

I bought the truck in Ohio and I live in PA. The truck is being service in Erie, PA. I am not sure which states lemon laws would apply.

Root cause of the problem was a connecting rod failure.

I already contacted Ram Customer Service. They are the ones that said that the only they can do is to try and expedite the parts. I told the rep. that this is taking to long and that I wanted a new truck. She told me to go to the glove box and read the lemon laws in the back of the owner's manual and see if they apply. I had to remind her that the truck was in the shop for the last 3 weeks and I did not have access to it. She said she might be able to have the dealership mail the owner's manual to me. WTF? :banghead:[/QUOTE]

And I got the recall notice for the cruise control today.

Mail it to you? It's your truck. Go over there and get it. They can't deny you access to your vehicle.
