What Should My Transmission Temp Be Running In The Hills Of West Virginia? My travel trailer dry weight 5100 Lbs. Total weight is 6300 Lbs. I was pulling tt the other day and my
trans temperature was up to 166 F. Is this to high? Or is this normal? Please let me know what temperature is normal and what temperature is to hot. Thanks

That's not a bad temp in my view. My trans temps are usually in the 165 - 172 deg range when towing.

What is the temp when you aren't towing? And what was the ambient temperature when you checked your trans temps? Obviously, hotter ambient temps will have an affect on trans temps.

Ambient temperature was 85°F. When not towing about one 152 Fahrenheit.

Transmission dipstick has a hot mark on it to check fluid level. That says it's 180. So if you're below that, I don't think the transmission is at it "normal" operating temperature.
Lower transmission temps the longer it lasts. Or so I here....

Well. mine 'normally' runs in the 140-150 range, 100% stock setup. So saying 180 is normal operating would never be true.

You missed my point. By them having the check level for normal operating temps at 180, the manufacturer does not consider 180 transmission temps too hot. Everyone on here is getting less than 180 and wondering if there's anything to be concerned about.

So by them having a check it at 180 mark, it whispers in my ear that anything a little over that (190?) is still nothing to worry about.
