I saw RysRams post about 2 months ago about the Borla install and so I jumped on the bandwagon. Got the muffler from Nick and ordered all the clamps and extension pipe per RysRam and it’s been sitting in my garage for over a month.

Install was pretty easy, I think I’m gonna take it back off again and shorten the extension pipe up a bit. I think my tips are sticking out a little too far. If anyone wants to measure I’d appreciate it.

So I bought a Borla Muffler part 400486 (bolt on), an 18 inch long extension pipe, two 2.25 clamps, one 3 inch clamp, and a 3 inch SS clamp. Old muffler came off alright. Sprayed PB on all the clamp bolts, bolted everything up, and now I’m gonna go for a spin.

Here are the pic of it installed.

Remember, if anyone wants to measure their tips like I did and let me know the dinension, I’d appreciate it.

Just cut 1” off the extension pipe. That will place your tips back where they should be.

Yeah, I just searched through the forums and looks like tips are usually flush. What sucks is that everything has to come off to cut the pipe...muffler, tail pipes, and all that. Oh well, lol.

Looks good. My tips are flush with the rear bumper.

Yeah, I needed my ext pipe to be 16 inches.

My old muffler had slots in the two outlets and the 2 tail pipes had a small metal tab on top, almost like it was to lock them in. So either I grind the tab down or take the ext pipe back off and cut to 16 to get that inch. I’ll probably go that route, it’ll drive me nuts

Yeah, I mentioned the alignment pins in my original thread. They need to be ground off to get enough of the tailpipe into the muffler outlets. The mid-pipe has an alignment pin too....it's right where the the 3" band clamp connects the extension pipe to the mid-pipe.

Which exhaust hangers did you guys use to hold the muffler and tail pipes in place? The Borla I looked at didn’t have any.

I didn't use any...there is a hanger right before the extension part starts and then there are 3 that hold the tailpipes up.

Now there are 2 not being used, there was one at the front and the back of the muffler. Reading a lot of the forums, I haven't seen anyone that added them back in. As of now, its ridiculously sturdy, I get no movement.

I was slightly concerned for down the road, but I don't think it will be an issue. If there is a bolt on hanger option I might look into that. The new setup weighs about 40 pounds less then stock.

Being a lot lighter is good. Hopefully it’s sturdy enough. If not there are a few different types of hangers available.

It’s a long stretch with less support. That was my only concern.

Nice pics of the install. How do you like the sound? I have the same muffler and really like it. I don't have any additional hangers either and it's solid as a rock.

Did your truck have a ground strap attached to the muffler? My truck did and I broke it when removing the OE muffler. I forgot all about it.

I like the sound, was looking for a slightly deeper tone without it being annoying and I think I like it. Decently quiet unless you romp on it...plus I just shaved 50 pounds off my truck, lol.
