I just had my first oil change. Thanks to the fine folks here I went straight to Redline 5w30 with a Royal Purple filter. I have a 2018 Big Horn 4x4 with 3900 miles and decided to go ahead and have the oil changed. My oil life gauge still showed 66%.

I haven't noticed any real engine tic or extraneous noises (maybe because the engine is still new) with the factory oil, but thought I'd go with the "hemi honey" right from the start. Hopefully it will prevent any noises from ever starting. It definitely isn't the cheapest oil change I've had, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the long run.

Before owning a Ram or being on this forum, I'd never heard of Redline....glad we have this resource to learn from.

Smart move I’d say changing your first oil early like that. I did that on my truck and wife’s ride around the 2000 mile mark. Gets some of the sediments & shavings out.

That was kinda my thought as well. I wanted to make sure I had enough break in miles to go ahead and switch to full synthetic. Probably could have done it sooner but it was my first opportunity.

These motors are completely broke in before they leave the mfg plant. Not the assembly line.
So why worry about it?

I thought the "hemi honey" was the pennzoil oil everyone and their mother says to run.. what factory wants/recommoned and uses because of the Hemi/Eco mode..

I saw so many youtube videos on what to use and well I already bought it - my buddy who is a tech "said best stuff to use man!" so - I guess I'll stick with it! HA

Do you know Lucas is like viscosity of 120 at operating temps? Whereas 5w20 would be 9 and 5w30 would be 12? It is ten times thicker then 5w30. It may or may not help the tick, but at what cost? Up to you, but tossing that in a new truck is a bold move.

34k on my Hemi using PUP 5w20 with Royal Purpler oil filter. After talking with the owner of a independent Porsche garage ( also with the knowledge I learned about motor oil from this forum, mainly Burla) who works on my Porsche Cayenne S, my next oil change will be Red Line 5w30/Royal Purple filter. Motul motor oil is what he uses in my Porsche. He said when it comes to motor oil, he uses what is best for the engine period. He also said that Redline is a fantastic oil.

Rp filters are excellent but their oil not so much, imho.

Bold or bad, either way not a good idea. That viscosity you're quoting is that the regular stuff or the synthetic? Years ago I tried a bottle of the synthetic in an old engine figuring I didn't have anything to lose and didn't realize any benefit at all, no oil pressure increase and no less noise.

Yes sir, that's a great oil too. May try it at some point as well. Went with Redline after reading a bunch of threads with happy campers with quiet, smooth Hemi's.

Correct, but I’m not throwing in a whole bottle maybe 1/4 of it to slightly thicken up what’s in there already

Worried about additives like STP, motor honey etc in our new Hemi engines. The oil galleys, oil runs and oil pressure specs, makes me worry that our engines may not tolerate heavy oil or additives. But, a small amount,,,,,

Well I added the Lucas this morning and it’s back to normal engine noise....... again I only added 1/4 of the bottle. I will probably drain and swap everything out within the next month or 2 to some redline 5w30
