And inside the tailgate (remove panel) check to make sure they hooked the new "Y" harness back up to both the camera and the locking solenoid...0a2676b6255b4838d10fc12cdc6f1c59.jpg

Ok, so I'm basically looking for some confirmation of what I messed up in the process. I have been poring over posts and threads about the OEM backup camera install (I wish I had found this one to start with). I completed the install and hooked the negative terminal up to test. When I turned the key to "on" my instrument cluster went crazy with flashing warning lights and a "service shifter" error message. When the key is on there is a clicking sound that comes from underneath the truck. The 5.0 radio had no power. I unhooked the negative cable and started rechecking all of my connections and discovered that I put the three wires into the wrong slots in the radio connector. I fixed this, but when I reconnected the negative cable the radio came on but all of the other issues were still present.

Near as I can tell, I may have destroyed the BCM by having the wires to the radio in the wrong slots. Does that sound about right? If so, it looks like I'll be towing to the dealer.

TIA

Did you work on the BCM C5 E-45 connection at all?
If so disconnect the battery, recheck/reseat that connector and any PDC/fuse box connectors you worked on while taping the power wire.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. YES I did! Simple matter of having two pins in the wrong place. I thought I got everything in the right place and kept going over it and over it missing my mistake each time. The I got tripped up by the confusing view of the connector that goes into the back of the radio. Thanks for checking in and thanks to everyone for the suggestions!

Just wanted to update my last post and provide maybe helpful info for anyone else who installs an OEM backup camera in their Ram. As a point of reference, my Ram is a 2017 SLT 2500 (Cummins) and added an OEM backup camera using the custom harness made by M2Mods. After installation the camera has to be activated and there are 3 ways to do this: visit the dealer and have the sales code added; use an AutoEnginuity (AE) and make the BCM changes needed; buy an OBD Genie.

I first went with using the AE. I found the following settings in the AE menu that pertained to the backup camera:
1) ECU Config 03
-Rear Camera =Present

2) LIN Module Customer Programmable Features
-Rear View Camera Dynamic Grid Lines =Enabled

3) Vehicle Config 1
-Rear View Camera

4) Vehicle Config CSM1
-Rear Camera Customer Settings Menu

5) Vehicle Config CSM2
-Rear View Camera Delay Customer Settings Menu

After applying the above settings in the BCM with the AE the backup camera was activated for the most part. It turned on when shifting into reverse and I had the dynamic grid lines as well. But what I did not have was the ability to turn on the camera from the CONTROLS screen (there are 2 ways to turn on the BU camera=shifting into reverse or using the CONTROL screen). Posted below is a screen shot of what the CONTROL screen looks like in a Ram with the BU camera;

Here is a pic of my screen:
408003[/ATTACH]']MjpSpdol.jpg

After attempting several other settings in the BCM with the AE and not being successful I went with Plan B to get the function on the CONTROL screen. Plan B was using the OBD Genie. I figured that I was somehow missing a setting(s) that would turn on the function. So I contacted Infotainment and specifically asked if their backup camera Genie would give me the same functionality as OEM and be able to turn on the camera by either shifting into reverse or using the Control screen. They advised "YES". So I ordered one and loaded the Genie up. NO JOY. Called them up and advised that it did not do as promised, it did not give me the CONTROLS screen icon. After some additional phone calls and emails I sent back the Genie for their inspection. So either they loaded the Genie wrong (possible) OR they were unaware about the CONTROLS screen function and never addressed this which I think is the more likely answer. At this point they said they will advise me if they are able to correct/add the Controls screen function.

Thought I update my last post since I have found a solution and someone else may need help at some point. As many on here know, there is a new tool and program being used to update and modify the BCM. It is the OBDLink MX and the Alpha OBD program, both of which I now have. Up until now I had been using an AutoEnginuity (AE) that I rented to make changes to the BCM. All the settings that the AE listed for the backup camera are above in my prior post. While these settings activated the camera and worked when I shifted into reverse, the AE settings did not place a backup camera icon on the settings screen so that the camera can be turned on and off without shifting into reverse.

After getting the OBDLink and Alpha program I went through the settings and found all of the above settings that the AE listed BUT found one additional setting: "Trailer Hitch Camera". Changed that to SET and success. Icon now on the control screen.

That's awesome and thanks for the post !

I believe only the 16- 18 radios can display the icon ?
If I'm wrong please do let me know because I have installed the OEM bu cam on my 14 Ram and I have a 15 RA4 radio ...I do not believe I can have the icon on the screen ? I'd really love to have it though [emoji106]

RLK.....I believe you are correct in that only 16-18 Ram's will display the backup camera icon on the Control screen.

Hello all. Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I just installed the Mopar backup camera (Ram 1500 Rear View Backup Camera (82214240AB). The truck is a 2016 Big Horn crew ecodiesel. I am however having some issues that I can not seem to figure out. I have searched this thread and found some great info but alas it still isn't working.

1) the radio is dead. No lights or signs of life.
2) the A/C is not coming on.
3) Heated seats work
4) Tow / Haul works
5) 2wd/4wd/4 low all engages
6) Fan works
7) the dash and instruments are fine.
8) one DTC of U0001
9) I have checked, double and triple checked every connection I have made against pictures I have found in this thread. All appear correct.
10) No it is not coded yet.
11) also added trailer brake option, using the two connectors under the dash
12) Once and only once did I apply power to the vehicle when the C5 connector was not seated properly.
13) tried reseting the radio with mute / volume, also temp up down buttons and the talk / phone button method.

I am suspicious of either C5 or the 3 pins on the radio only because they gave me the most difficulty in connecting the wires.

(update) resoldered C5-45 Org/DB with purple wire - no change

suggestions, anything for me to chase.?????
Thanks
Peter

Check all fuse with a meter .
Don't forget the in line radio fuse near the break booster .
Check the C-5 connector again .

Will the truck start ?

Disconnect the battery terminals ( both ) touch them together for 10 seconds then leave them disconnected for a minimum of 30 mins ...
Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

I have checked all fuses with a meter. Twice just to be sure.
resoldered the C5 connection and the PDC #13 as well.

Tested the radio fuse by the brake booster and replaced it with a new one that I tested.

The truck does start.

Just disconnected the battery and then shorted the + and - for 15 seconds..... Waiting for 30 min. I had the battery off for 24 hrs yesterday. Let you know how I make out in 30 min.

(Update) Waited the 30 minutes and no change. :( Looks like I need to make an appointment with everyone's friend the dealer.

Thanks again
Peter

Also, post a picture of the back of your radio connectors as linked in post 10. My money is on 31,32,33 being swapped with pins 1,2,3 (can bus & airbag deployment signal).

Add rear view pictures of the rest of the connectors you worked on as well.

Looking at the front of the C-5 Connector sockets 31,32&33 are the lower right , looking from the backside of the C-5 connector they are the lower left .

Look on the radio male pins side , on my RA2 pin 31 was clearly marked , this helped me determine where to populate the C-5 connector.
Hope this helps !
