So, I don't know if this has already been discussed, but there is a Russian forum where they have dissected these and made them highly customizable. If you're interested, go to the following link and let Google translate the forum.

https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=877711

I've got mine looking much better, the next step is root access to begin changing the system apps.

More improvement (subjectively). The Russian developers have modified the system apps to have a more appealing look with a black high contrast background. I needed to root with KingRoot in order to make these changes.

My navigation is now voiced by Arnold Schwarzenegger!

I ordered my 7.1.1 from Phoenix and they sent the wrong one the first time. A month later I finally get the right one this past Saturday. It takes longer to figure out what wires go where since there are no instructions or wiring diagrams. In fact not a single piece of paper. Got what I thought was the correct wiring connected and everything works great except........the factory backup camera. In reverse the screen changes and says no signal. I figure I just connected the yellow RCA plug to the wrong plug behind the radio. Take the dash apart and switch the plugs around and still no signal. The factory camera does work since you could see it when you use the AUX button on the radio. I guess that's where I had it connected the first time. Anyway another problem came up where the touch screen went dark and no longer works.......sometimes. This morning I started the truck and the touchscreen came on but as soon as I touched it to change a setting it went dark. It is a good thing the radio starts back up where it left off so I can have AC since its only a million degrees here in SC. I had messages in to Phoenix and they called me late Monday night. We did a video call (I like they will do that) but I still had the dash together. Was supposed to get a call last night but no dice. I'll call them later today. Anybody got any idea why the screen went dark and then comes on sometimes but locks up and touchscreen doesn't work? I'm thinking maybe a loose wire in one of the harnesses they supplied. Also, the headlights are always on if you leave it in the AUTO mode. I saw another thread that mentioned that issue after installing an aftermarket radio. No mention of the radio type though.

That was me with the auto headlights staying on and it's this radio. Are you able to navigate to any settings or does the screen blank as soon as you touch it?

I did a hard reset of the radio an hour ago with the RST button and everything seemed to work after the reboot, except the headlights staying on, for a few minutes and then the screen went dark. I'm like WTF? I'm thinking I'll go out there in a while and it'll start back up again and stay on for a few minutes so I'll think I'm good and then............****

Make note of the power button location at the top of the screen while it's on. Next time the screen goes out, press the location on the screen where the power button would be to see if it brings it back. It moves around bssed on the selected theme, but here is mine in the top left of the screen...9c096d441a46f98766161c77d14a6cfa.jpg

Started the truck during lunch and yes the radio came back on. It stayed on for about three minutes and then went dark. My power button is still in the middle and it will not restart the radio. Really strange. A wire coming loose after the truck runs for a few min? Something heating up and turning off the power? I'm going to take it out after work and manually power it up and see what happens, I guess. Does this thing have a screen timeout setting ?

I'm very interested in your head isn't issue so if Phoenix answers that question I'd be grateful if you could post what they say.

Here are all of the available settings. I haven't put it in a friendlier format yet. It's been translated from Russian so some of the English might be strange but it's better than the Chinese description settings alone.

That is a lot of settings. I'm not sure I know how to get to all of them. Some, using the 7891 pword I think. Anyway, I'll be calling Phoenix in a few hours. I will post what they say.

Thanks. I spent over 30 minutes on a video chat with Eric from Phoenix. I tell you they have been good about helping me like that. Bottom line is they are sending me a new radio. We double checked all the wiring connections and still had no screen. Eric figured something internal had gone bad. It happens. But they have already submitted a new order to have the radio sent, from China unfortunately, only this time they are not waiting for me to send the wrong one back like they did when I received the wrong radio. I'm going to be chomping at the bit until it comes in knowing now what it looks like in the dash (awesome!) and all that it can do. And not being a stereo geek I think the radio/sound portion sounds great. Come on DHL.

Did you happen to ask about the auto headlights issue?

I got so wrapped up in trying to get the radio going I forgot. I'll send him a text later today and ask the question. I'm guessing he'll reply since we just chatted yesterday. I'll post and let you know what he says.

I sent Eric from Phoenix a text asking about the headlight issue. He responded right away and said they are aware of the issue and have contacted the manufacturer who is supposed to be working on a fix. I guess for now its just use the headlight switch manually or leave them on during the day.

Thank you! I really appreciate you asking for me. I came by mine honestly, but I didn't purchase from them and many of these resellers don't answer questions.

FYSA...do not try to add the fastboot firmware to an earlier slow boot Tesla style Android Radio. It won't work...

On another note, I'm really getting this thing dialed in. Has anyone happened to have purchased a screen protector for one of these? I'm looking for one with a bit more of a matte finish...9a20bd23f76686636542ad6434b6a7c0.jpg7c1f7f71e86c64bdf448b2f4116a27b7.jpg

First, for all the early adopters, thanks because of your willingness to try new things we all benefit.

Now, here is my question. I have been doing significant research regarding the feasibility of installing one of these radios in my 2010 Ram 2500. I have found lots of answers that say it cannot be done, most referencing the CANBUS and all the factory controls. Since my truck doesn't have uConnect and all those fancy options, based on what I have read it could function like most aftermarket radios with the options I want such as gauges for engine statistics, etc. but that leaves questions about the climate controls that would be misplaced in the process. I realize there could be significant effort to retrofit the dash to work, but I would really love to have the size screen for my back up camera (I have poor eyesight) among other things.

Also, one of the pages in this thread, someone with an express mentioned something about installing the audio controls in his steering wheel (assuming they did not come factory). Is there some information about this available? I would love to have that in my truck. Any help or insight would be appreciated. I have posted about this upgrade in several FB groups and no one has even responded. I am new to the RAM scene, but am very excited to see what others have done.

Unfortunately, unless you know how to write the code to control your HVAC and have all of the harnesses and pin-outs for older RAM radios, this mod is not for you.

Your best bet would be to upgrade your radio to some other aftermarket solution and or the highest tier OEM radio that was available for your year.
