Hey y'all. I have a 2016 RAM 1500 5.7 4x4 8 speed Lonestar that I put a 4 inch lift and 35s on. I have the 3.21 gears in it and it seems to stay locked in 7th mostly while cruising at 70 mph at 2k rpms unloaded. And with my can am commander and 6x12 trailer it gears searches a good bit from 5th-7th going to the camp with rolling small hills.

Which gears should I go with? I think I calulated it out to 3.55s. Would 3.92s be better? Also will be towing my dads 1994 23ft center console Kenner bay boat the summer a good bit.

thanks!!

the taller the better for towing so I wouldnt mess around and just go for the 3.92's. if you have a heavy foot the 3.92's with the 4"lift and 35'' tires will dramatically kill your MPG. just an FYI. I went form the stock 33's to 35 toyo m/t's (no lift) and my MPG has dropped about 2, and im a very easy driver.

Not too concerned with MPG as much as I am about SPG and being comfortable with how it tows. Bc right now I'm not happy with it, very sluggish.i will also get a Diablo sport tuner with unlocked pcm and custom tune. But I also don't want to overwork my motor or transmission, that's why I was thinking 3.55s

IMO the 5.7 and 8speed combination can handle a LOT of abuse.

Good to know. Thanks. Guess I'll go to the shop tomorrow and order the 3.92 ring and pinion for the rear and the whole damn front diff for the front! :/

When you get all those prices can you post up what the cost is.

I know the rear is about $750 parts and labor and I think the part number for the entire front diff is 68257422AA at about $690 and I dk what install is but me and a buddy installed my lift in his garage and it wasent too bad to remove the front diff. Might even be cheaper than swapping gears. But I will let y'all know

Ill be honest. 3.92's will definitely be better but it wont be groundbreaking. I just dont want you to think its going to be a monster after the swap. In all honesty the 35"s are what kill it. I want to switch to 4:10's or maybe 4:56's to help me out but the 4:56's are were the money is at for the 6.4 hemi.

Yea I'd like to go to 4.10s but without having to swap diffs to a older 3rd gen I believe that I'm not sure even fits my 4th gen. 3.92 is the lowest I'm able to go but it's gotta be better than the 3.21s lol. And I think the power wagons come with factory 4.10s right?

I thought that would cost a lot more than that to swap. I might have to look into this in the future

I've been looking into this also; is there a need for speedo recalibration after doing this? I've read both yes and no.
