I just bought this 2011 Ram 1500 Laramie on Sunday. I did not drive the truck on Monday, due to getting insurance and plates taken care of. Tues. morning I go out and it had a hard time starting, like it had a low battery, but it started. I ran to town and made a couple stops, it started with no problem both times. I stopped by my patents house, and when I went to leave it just clicked rapidly. I had to have them jump start it. I made it home and put the battery charger on it with a medium charge for 5 hours. It starts no problem with the key now, but the check engine light is now on, and I can start it with the remote start, but it only runs for about 20 seconds and shuts it's self off, and a message on the dash says, remote start deactivated start with key. Any ideas? This is my first Dodge vehicle.

How much fuel is in it??
If the low fuel light is on, then remote start “ Starts then shuts off”

Also these things are very picky about batteries. Would prolly be best just to put a new battery in. Or Make sure that one is fully charged.

Sounds like you need a new battery. Funky things happen when the battery isn't at 100%.

I agree start with a new battery. If its the original battery the truck was on "borrowed" time. Most newer vehicles you are lucky if you get 3-4 years out of one.

It was down to 1/8 of a tank, I put gas in it, it has 1/2 tank now. I will start with the battery and see if that is the fix. Thanks for the help.

In addition to the low fuel light, the check engine light will also stop the remote start.

I would be interested to see what the check engine light codes are to see if they were set by a low voltage condition to the various modules or you have something else going on.

As others mentioned, the battery is a good starting point.

Check the battery terminals for tightness and how clean they are. Sometime when dealers are cleaning and prepping cars they will clean and bomb the interiors and leave the doors open overnight to get rid of odors. Sometimes they diconnect the battery and don’t clean and tighten them back up. It’s worth a try and the cheapest way to go now but it could still be the battery. Take it to Autozone or Advance and they can check both the battery and the alternator as well as download whatever codes you have.
If this sounds like a lot, maybe take it back to the dealership and have them straighten things out.

Good luck.

Thanks Everyone, I think I may have left something on. I charged the battery, then disconnected the positive battery cable to clear the computer, and reconnected it. The truck has been starting good, and the check engine light is out. It's been 2 days with no more issues. Thanks again.
