Hey Guys!

My 96 3500 v10 has been down for a while now with no reverse, and no OD. This is one of my tow trucks and I'd like to get it back on the road.

I've come across a 1998 2500 v10 8.0l with the 47re at auction. The v10s generally do not sell for much, Im wanting to purchase entirely for trans only.

I recall reading some time ago, maybe years, that 47re years differ, I know quite a few of you are good with the trans, and Im wondering if it will be a simple remove and reinstall with the "new to me" trans. Or if there is differences in the internals of the transmission and wiring that will make it not possible.

I have also pondered a 5 or 6 speed swap, however v10 trucks are few and far between already, and I would rather stick with what the truck was made with. (it is also easier for other potential new hire drivers to drive auto)

Any thoughts, comments, or concerns are greatly appreciated.IMG_5766.jpg IMG_5768.jpg

Some may be able to answer more definitively but I Think the neutral safety, speed sensor, and the solenoid plug are slightly different on some trucks. internals should be pretty close to the same. May vary by what was put into it from factory,(ie clutch pack counts, thrust washer tab count, and or planet gear pinion count) but overall the same. Check electronics harnesses and get sensors for whichever was original in vehicle.
