Hey, what's happening? Me? Good. Good. Won't complain unless I'm getting paid for it. Do me a solid, would you? Explain this odd **** to me, please.

A 5.7 in a 3500? Pretty sure they come with it if wanted. Not sure what the pic is looking at or for

OOps, I see it now, that is odd. Used to see things like that in the old days, in the 70 and 80s i believe. Smaller V8 in bigger trucks.

Well that did seems odd. Just looked it up and for 2016 both 5.7 and 6.4 were available options. Would just seem that, what you expect a 3500 to do and haul, that would be pushing the 5.7 But I don't build them.

I see them quite often as fleet trucks, and the CNG variants too. If you just need to throw something heavy in the bed and run it across town, it’s plenty of truck

The 5.7 has more hp and to than the 80s and 90s big blocks in the 1 ton trucks did. It probably makes more power then our beloved V10 did too? Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Back in those days we raved about the 8.1 gm big block, the 460 ford V8, the dodge 360 was a good runner as was the V10 dodge (just don't put a loud exhaust on one)

The current 5.7 out performed those engines so if your not towing heavy and just need high payload capacity, there's nothing wrong with the 5.7 in the 3500.. I'd rather the 6.4 if i had the choice but the 5.7 will run and work too. Just my .02

There’s a reason the dealers offer so many options. Everybody uses their truck differently and has different wants and needs.

I'm just getting older times are changing, of course they always have, but now that you mention it. This is true. There are people, alot of the younger crowd,(nothing wrong with that) that just want a big truck. Don't ever intend on using it to its full capacity, just like the size and look, maybe mid range towing, medium size camper or whatever. No need getting a locomotive engine in the truck for that. And as GsRam said also the 5.7 is no slouch thats for sure. Not trying to make this long but when I was little my dad, like his dad and many family members, were loggers. They primarily used old "pulpwood" trucks. These would be equivelent to a Ford F450 or 550. But this was a mid 70s model. They had a makeshift crane on the back engineered out of a rear axle out of something and used it like a hand brake run off of a pto attached to the transmission. I remember him telling me this truck had a straight 6 cylinder, gas engine. They used it for years.

There was a time when many "heavy duty" trucks had a straight 6 gas motor in them, along with a granny geared 4 speed manual trans. They managed to pull many a heavy load.

The gas heavy duties have a higher payload since the engine weighs less. If it was designed as a hauler, it makes sense. Although the flares and bro wheels seem to contradict that.

Prolly was. Maybe bought used and made it his own. Can find some good deals on heavy duties with the 5.7 in it. By looks of truck she’s a pavement princess and well there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a good looking truck and I’m sure it does all he or she need it to do.

I found a smokin deal on a 2018 Mega Cab Laramie just before I bought my Harvest Edition. Was real excited until I realized it was a 5.7, then I walked away. Not that the 5.7 isn't a great engine, but I had my heart set on the 6.4

I need to drive and tow with a 6.4 just so I can feel the diff. My 5.7 does what I need it to do.

I found a brand new 3500 mega cab about a year ago 4wd slt 35k I was shocked started reading into the details and it was a 5.7l and i was bummed. About the only real use I see is for the guy that needs 3500lbs worth of utility box and tools that doesnt need to tow alot.
