Just purchased the 2017 2500 tradesman. Wondering if it's normal, but when I have my foot on the brake and start the engine, I feel a pretty strong "click" on the brake pedal. Is this normal?

I think so. do you have the power adjustable pedals? I do and mine did that for several thousand miles. Just as I was getting pissed off and about to go into the dealer, it basically "smoothed out" and went away.

Mine does it as well but I don't have adjustable pedals. Weird feeling, but I asssume it's not causing any harm.

I believe what you are feeling in the brake pedal is the hydro-boost brake system getting pressurized. The RAM HD's brakes are powered by power steering pump instead of vacuum like the 1500's.

sounds more like the shift interlock system releasing to me. with the truck running, or even with just the key in the on position and the truck in park, every time you depress the brake pedal you will feel a clicking that releases the shifter. once you shift out of park, you will no longer feel it. its just preventing you from accidentally shifting the truck out of park without having your foot on the brake. every car does this, but it is pretty noticeable in the ram.

This is accurate. My 17 does this when i go to shift out of park. I believe it's the shift interlock system. Could be the brake hydro boost.

In any rate, it's normal in my opinion. Both trucks I test drove did it.

After 15,000 miles....and after the trucks first taste of -18*f, my truck started doing the same thing....Had it in the dealer last week, was told it's NORMAL...BUT...If the shifter sensor fails completely, it will lockout the ability to shift from park to D or R...Rendering the truck undriveable....The brake switch sensor that's under the dash will do the same thing if it takes a shyt...

Also when the truck is off, and the fob is out, when I hit the door lock button, it activates that shift sensor and I can hear open/close, just like when I touch the brake pedal....

My 15 with the 6.4 and adjustable pedals has done it every time I've hit the starter from day one. I just assumed it was the anti-locks coming on line or something in the braking system energizing. I just asked my buddy who has a 15 with the Cummins and he said his always does it too, so I'm guessing it's supposed to do it. It is a weird feeling though!

So I have an 18 2500 Tradesman. I’ve put 1000 miles on it since I bought it new. Never heard the brake pedal click or the shifter interlock before and all of a sudden this morning it’s doing it. It’s kind of irritating, but I guess if it’s normal it’s just how it’s going to be. Is this something I should have the dealer look at? Why would it start all of a sudden? Either that or I just haven’t noticed it until now...

I got my 18 2500 Laramie last November and it does it. I don't know if it's normal or not, but it stops just fine.

I’m thinking it’s normal now. I think I just didn’t notice it until I did, ha. If the AC is in or the radio, I’m thinking that masked the sound.
